However I don’t think the vtec is engaging so it looks like I have a few issues to work out still.

Any ideas you guys may have or something I should try to resolve my vtec issue would be greatly appriciated. :rockon:

I also noticed the vacuum canister was removed and some vacuum lines where open, I routed everything to where it should go minus the canister… is there any specific reason the vacuum canister would be needed?

Typical reasons vtec is not activating;

  1. non vtec ECU or damaged ECU
  2. selonoid not wired to ECU (or not wired correctly)
  3. Selonoid and or engine not properly grounded.
  4. VSS not connected
  5. check engine liight on (ECU in limp mode)
  6. engine not warmed up.
  7. Car has to be at speed before ECU will activate vtec (see #4)

did it ever work before?

it’s either electrical or mechanical.

electrical = vtec solenoid, ecu, etc etc
mechanical = dowel pin in the rocker arms, or gasket/dowel in the center of the head, etc etc

troubl shoot your solenoiod first. make sure it works, then make sure it’s activating when it should. If the ECU triggers the solenoid, then take your cams off to get to the rockers

Thanks, you have given me a starting point… may be a stupid question, but what is VSS?

It hasn’t worked, I just recently purchased the car and going through and fixing all the little things… basically taking over someone elses unfinished product.

vss=vehicle speed sensor

Thanks

Just pulled the cluster and prev. owner had removed the check engine light bulb, just replaced them all and going to throw it back in and see what codes I get… anyone know of a code list for a p28?

Codes I have are 10, 17, and 22.

Thanks alot, big help… But I have a question… its obd1 cable tranny, there is no electrical plug for the VSS… how do I fix that? speedo and everything works.

Everything is fixed, bought a new IAT sensor, VSS dissappeared after I reset the ECU, Its a Chipped p28 so they must have done away with the VSS, and the Vtec Pressure Valve wasn’t plugged into the ecu. I pulled the Ecu and the wire just fell out. Repaired the Wire and no more check engine light :rockon: Took it down the street just to see if the Vtec was working and it kickked in and pulled so hard felt like it was turbo charged… Thanks for all the Help guys!!!
