ok so i recently got a 93 GSR all original 1 owner. The old man ran it off a road and it damaged the passenger side front suspension. its all been replaced but the rear subframe is bent where the lower control bolts in. It causes the caster to be way off as well as camber. the wheel leans out at the top and sits against the door. my question is will the rear subframe from a non gsr work? by the way i use to be 91teggygs on here so im not a noob by any means
i think it will
i know some things are different on gsr chassis but im hoping the crossmember/subframe is the same
After attemtping to cross-reference part numbers… OEMAcuraParts isn’t listing a P/N for the GSR subframe… it verywell may be discontinued as they list the P/N for the LS (50200-SK7-A54). If they were the same part, id assume they’d list the P/N for the GS-R.
They still might be interchangeable, but it does indeed appear that they are different parts.
i wonder how i would find out if the part would be the same. what about a GS Trim level being that the gs is basically a gsr minus the vtec b17 engine.
Same P/N as the LS.
I believe GS-R subframes to be different as they don’t even have the beam that goes under the oil pan, connecting the front and rear subframes, as the LS/RS/GS cars… But the mounting holes are probably the same for all models.
If you cross-referenced control arms and all that business you might be able to deduce if they’re the same or not. Oemacuraparts.com. Do work!
The GS is basically an LS with more features/ameneties. Same trans, wiring, engine, etc. WHile the chassis may have differences especially considering unified’s chassis part # work, I think you would be fine with a LS/RS/GS rear subframe. My reasoning is all the parts that bolt to that frame are the same with the same alignment and specs. RTA’s, sway bars, toe compensators, LCAs, struts, gas tank etc. Just stick with the 2 door frame, if you must 92-93 (though I don’t think year makes a difference between 90-93). The GSR’s main difference between the RS/LS/GS is mostly drivetrain, I think from the doors back it is all the same besides aesthetics.
EDIT: beat me to it unified xD I do think that the rears are the same though. And oops, I was thinking waaaay rear. Stupid me.
i know that the lower and upper control arms were replaced from a non gsr along with the knuckle assembly. im gonna do some research and see what i can find out about the subframe.
what would some other alternatives be? could the subframe be pulled at a body shop with a frame machine maybe?
I had the same problem. Replaced everything minus the rear subframe and still had the problem. Mine is a 92 gsr. Eventually I replaced the rear sub with one from a 92 ls. Fixed the problem. Your only other option would be a frame pull from a suspension shop but it’s by no means cheap. As much of a pain in the ass changing the subframe is, it’ll save a few hundred bucks.
thank you so much for that info DA’buff. knowing that you used one from a non gsr helps me so much. i can get one cheap from the junkyard here that has a 92 ls.
No worries mate
Good to have some clarification on this subject… will file this info away in my head in case its needed later. Good stuff G2IC!
maybe this thread should get filed and put under the article section for future reference. im sure this has been a debate at sometime before and i bet it wont be the last either
