Just wanted to share my recently finished rebuild. When i started i had a hard time finding any information about B17 mild builds so hopefully i can help answer a few questions by posting this. I’m no expert, my prior experience only includes boosting my old 90’ DA with a few friends of mine. Nothing crazy. Stock B18A1, ebay turbo kit. dsm injectors, 255 fuel pump. Car made 230Hp and 220Tq and was very fun to drive.
So here’s all that was done to my 1350$ 93’ GSR i purchased.
Block was stripped completely. My local machine shop cleaned and honed it. Notched the rods to fit CTR pistons.
Block then got assembled with ACL rod bearings and Clevite mains.
New TypeR oil pump, front/rear main seals, all the basic rebuild stuff.
Deleted the black can on back of block and plugged the hole with a expandable rubber plug from advance auto.
No head work. Just BC springs and retainers, Skunk2 stage 2 tuner cams with Vision Work cam gears.
HyTech replica header. 2.5" exhaust with tubular Magnaflow exhaust in the rear in the stock muffler position.
Blox “skunk2” replica intake manifold ported to match the 67mm TB.
ebay intake with K&N filter at the end.
F1 stage 2 clutch.
Fidanza 8lb flywheel.
Hondata intake manifold gasket.
New water pump and timing belt.
Vented valve cover.
Stock head gasket.
1000cc RC injectors (for E85) i recommend at least 830cc+ for E85 set up.
Xenocron 255 fuel pump.
ARP Headstuds.
So anyone wondering about clearance. Everything is fine with CTR pistons and S2 stage 2 tuner cams using the stock head gasket.
On the dyno.
I Retard my ex cam -2 and advanced the intake cam +2 and was able to gain 4.2Hp in 2 mins of work.
Tuned on Chrome gold with E85 in the gas tank.
The car made 187Hp to the wheels @ 8500rpm. The power kept climbing, the cams wanted more revs but i made a mistake of not installing ARP rod bolts.
Its potentially a 190Hp set up if we reved to 9K maybe? My friends rev their B16s to 9200 but i really just wanted to keep it safe than sorry.
Torque stayed flat from about 3500rmp at 111lb all the way to 8500.
