97 B18B1 into 91 RS shell

My buddy had a shop install a 97 LS engine into his 91 RS automatic. Long story short, they didnt set the timing correct, the belt slipped… blah blah.

I replaced the cylinder head with a 91. Used the 97 manifolds and finally got the car to run and without any vacuum lines hooked up, the car would idle decent at or around 1K

The 97 b18b1 came from a manual car, so there’s no EGR. Aside from this, on the stock 97 LS intake manifold there arent enough vacuum ports to plug in all the vacuum lines.

To fix this I thought since all the vacuum lines pull from the IM, I could just get some T’s and some more vacuum tubing and be ok.

Well, I get it all hooked up and shit. The car starts and will rev fine, however if left to idle… it slowly starts to choke itself. I usually tend to shut it off before it does actually choke out and die on its own.

Things I’m going to try

  1. let it run, until it actually dies.
  2. i thought about getting a 90-91 automatic LS IM and installing that…
  3. any input?

Please let me know what I can do to get this thing out of my damn garage…

Yes, I do have the OEM acura service manual for 90-91 integra’s. I also followed the vacuum diagram to hook up the lines… granted it may not be right becuase most of the vacuum ports are not there. I assume due to te year of the engine, obd’s, emissions controls etc.

nobody?

give it some time fool

bring it back!!!

If the EGR isn’t hooked up right the OBD0 automatics will do some strange stuff. Mine used to drop idle low, then raise it up high and keep it high - it was a wiring issue.

There is no harm in using the PR4 OBD0 head on a P75 OBD2 motor. I think that will actually yield a higher compression reading (verify that for me).

as far as missing vac ports, you can splice into the exisiting ones on the P75 intake manifold, but it’s pointless to use since it’s missing the EGR opening and that’s what will trick the ECU into acting wierd on its idle.

I could be wrong but I think that the ECU isn’t reading the EGR throwing a CEL and most likely telling the IACV to go nuts. You can use automatic IMs on 5spd cars, but not the other way around.

I do have a 90 automatic intake manifold that has been stripped and already sent to the machine shop for a steam bath. Let me know if you want to buy it.

Whats included on the IM? ILl talk to my buddy about it.

do you have pics of the swap, and i was just wondering, where was the oil pressure switch sensor plugged up to? because the obd2 doesnt have it on the block like the obd0 does. im in the same boat as you. 97 b18b in a 90

i gave the car back to the owner. all problems just seemed to work themselves out. his harness was redone by hasport so they did away with that sensor i guess. no idea bro.

the car runs. just will not pass emissions.

damn, i just need to solve that problem and im gonna just use my stock intake manifold. just going to be easier like that. no one wants to let their secrets out

That might be the best idea, I had a '99 b18b swapped into my '90ls years ago, and the old b18a manifold was used. Its a lot easier that way, and apparently a better torque spread. food for thought.
