I recently got married and just added my wife’s 97 Camry to my insurance. To my surprise, insuring her Camry with full coverage was cheaper than insuring my 91 Integra with only liability coverage!
I asked the insurance agent about the difference and her reply was “Acura’s are expensive”. I told her that clearly she had never seen my Acura (primered hood and over 300k miles), but whatever.
Does this make sense to anyone or am I being taken for a ride?
Interesting. I didn’t think about theft factoring into it.
The thing is though, I only have liability on the Teg, so if I wreck it, it gets stolen, etc… I am out of luck. The insurance only covers damage I do to someone else with the car right? So they are basically saying I am more likely to cause damage with a 91 Integra than a 97 Camry?
theft would be a small %, when is the last time you saw two camry’s street racing? when is the last time you saw two integras racings? an accident followed by 1,000,000$ lawsuit…someone has to pay for it. lets all thank the street racers out there for the high insurace rates. street racers are a bunch of turds
How much of a difference is the pricing for insurance between the cars? When I switched my insurance from liability only(90 accord) to full coverage with roadside assistance(teg), it only went up $30 dollars per month for me. But I have like a few discounts, no tickets ever, and no accidents for 5+ years and counting.
What color is the Yota? And what safety features does it intale? Some other factors you can put into consideration for prices. I also had a Camry v6 LE n it was less than my Jasper Da9 to
R1
Id say couple of things: one u got married hence BIg discount but more importantly Im assuming ur agent put the camry on as ur second car, thus it is at least half as much if not more than the first car. Id say thats why
whos ur insurance comp?
b4 I got hitched I was paying like 1050 to have my car covered-everything but collision, including all my "add ons’, I added my wifes car (91 teg also) and our total bill dropped below 1k
we have westfield – from someone whos int he collision business they write very good estimate and actually try to fix cars properly… I have very low opinions many lesser companies which I won’t mention here lol
I think what zman said probably has the biggest effect, there aren’t many people taking the twisties in Camry’s.
As for the difference in price, my Integra is like $40 more than the Camry. Clearly nothing to cry about, but it is weird that it is more when the Camry has full coverage. It does make me think though, I’ve never checked on full coverage for the Teg, maybe I should.
And like someone else said, it is an additional car on the policy. My Integra was the first one and is listed as the main vehicle. I’ve also got an RX-8 so the Camry is actually the third one on the policy.
