a/c compressor belt

does the idler pully have a bolt you have to loosen before you start to loosen up the ten millimeter bolt?

I dont have A/C on my car so not 100% sure ,but most have a nut on the front of the pulley that locks the adjuster. Loosen the nut first, then move the adjuster bolt.

yeah its just that we have alot of snow here… and i cant see where the idler pully mounts since theres no room from above… and im not wanting to have to lay in the snow i loosened the long 10 millimeter bolt that loosens the tension but the pully didnt move i just need to know if you gotta loosen the bolt or nut from underneith. i got a terrible whining supercharger like noise comming from my motor andi believe its the a/c compressor… its leaking oil i gotta get that belt off. it dont help that its like 15 degress out

Yes there is another bolt you have to loosen before loosening the adjuster. You should be able to reach it from the top. Grab a light and look below the power steering pump. The bolt is either on the front of the idler pulley or right beside it on the bracket for the idler pulley, I forget which. Basically the pulley/bracket slides up and down in a slot. You have to loosen it so it will slide when you turn the adjuster. Maybe someone with A/C will chime in here with a pic.

i figured that. i know the bolt is where the pully arm bolts to the block i just cant seem to be able to get to it from the top the cold really doesnt help. ill try again tommarow thanks

It’s much easier to get to that bolt from underneath the car using a simple wrench (Assuming the power steering belt is off the car)

If you’ve got a supercharger noise try checking out the A/C tensioner pulley itself before messing with the compressor. I had a similar problem and the A/C tensioner pulley bearing was almost seized up, you could barely turn it by hand.
