a/c compressor questions

I have a 1991 acura integra gs. The a/c used to b perfect on this car, it was still r12 even! then one day it would get warm, then cool, then warm, then cool… pulled a vacuum on it, charged it up, and all was good… for about a day. then it started again. now when i look at the compressor with the a/c running, then compressor will engage for about a second then stop spinning and then engage about three seconds later. any clue? i have read the clutches and stators on the compressors go bad, but is this the common symptom? thank you

Theres a problem with the system. You might have a leak some where. At any autoparts store, they sell a leak test kit for a/c.

The rapid clutch cycling you’re describing is typically a sign of low refrigerant level. You may have a leak. Did you recharge with R-12?
