A/C Conversion from R12 to 134

Has anyone done it before and if so, what all is required?

I’m no expert on this subject ,but I have gotten it done by a mechanic on my 90 accord. It worked fine while I owned my car for several months. But I have heard negative things about doing this conversion though, such as, leaking issues.

who needs a AC lol i took mine outt

Anyone else? I know that you have the replace your high and low line connections as well as replace the oil but is there anything else that has to be done? Also, I was told that you would have to replace the compressor to a compressor that works with 134. Does anyone know if that is true?

I did it on my 90 last summer and i loved it!! Im in school so it was cheap and i had help from the instructor. All i replaced was the accumulator cause it was R-12 and the new stuff is R-134. I used all the same lines except i had to buy a retro fit kit for the high and low side because the R-12 are a lot small. I loved it while it lasted cause the compressor gave out last winter!! lol

You will need to replace the filter/dryer, [accumulator] install R134a service ports, flush the system, do not flush the compressor, remove it and and drain the oil, replace the oil with the correct amount of oil. [use Ester oil] also a good idea to add 2oz of C4 oil, 1/2 the oilcan go into the filter the othe 1/2 into the compressor,

If oil can not be put into compressor because it will leak out when reinstalling the compressor, install the compressor first and disconnect the suction line and pour oil into compressor through suction line, you may have to play with charge level but it should be around 90% of R12 charge. 94

from what i recall you’re also supposed to replace all o rings as the ones designed for r12 “supposedly” aren’t effective in containing the 134. apparently the components of 134 are of smaller molecules than r12, and it “could” leak. although i know for a fact many people who haven’t and have been fine since

I should have mentioned it, but “O” rings and seals should always be replaced at any fitting that has been removed/opened as it is only a 50/50 chance they will reseat properly and as all connections are opened to flush the system, all the “O” rings and seals should be replaced. just like any gasket, you should never reuse them, also an A/C system that has been empty or even unused for a long period of time will have "O’ rings that are “dried out”.

We use the same “O” rings and seals for R12 and R134a systems.94

if you are switching because of the price of r-12 nowadays, consider this:
