A/C fan necessary??

my a/c doesnt work, and the fan would come on 10min after i turn off the car (bad relay??) i unplugged it cuz it was running down my battery, i figure i dont need it anyways since the ac doesnt work…does this fan really cool down the motor at all??? wahts the reason this comes on after the car is off?? how much would it take to get it fixed cuz im gonna get the ac fixed pretty soon…:argh:

To answer your question, yes the A/C condenser fan (the fan on the driver’s side) is necessary, the engineers put it there for a reason. You definitely want that fan there if you are running A/C. Even if your A/C is not functioning, you still want the fan there because it helps cool off the engine after shut-down. That’s why the A/c fan will sometimes come on after the car is shut off. It’s connected to an oil temperature switch. If the oil gets above 212 degrees, the fan will come on, and I believe it’s on a 15 minute timer or something like that. So don’t worry, your fan is operating normally.

You don’t need the drivers side fan at all. It is strictly for the A/C. Mine hasn’t been in my car for a couple of months now. The only negative effect of not having it there is your car will overheat if you have your A/C on in non-moving traffic.
