A Few Quirks On My 90 GS that have been botherin me...

OK I picked up this 90 GS not too long ago 81K bone stock and there are a few quirks that have been botherin me that I wanna get taken care of…

  1. Hesitaition

Im plannin on puttin in a new O2 sensor just as soon as the mailman delivers it. Ive also startin lookin at tuneups kits to do the plugs, wires, cap and rotor all at once. Any good names to go for? Ive heard of NGK but how good are they? Also anything else I should be doin to take care of this or should this just bout do it?

  1. Fan runs ALL THE TIME

I start the car for one minute and turn it off, then I hear the fan come on right after I shut it off and run, its not even that hot and the fans runnin, what gives?

  1. Dome light…

You know when you turn your car off and the dome light automatically comes on and stays on for like a minute then eventually goes off? Welp it doesnt happen in my car. Dammit. What relay? And YES Ive checked every fuse.

  1. The idle…

I hit the gas (once its warmed up) and let off of it and the needle dips way down like its bout to stall before it goes back up to normal idle. Im thinkin the new O2 sensor and tune up might take care of this but maybe not?

Its been a while since Ive been workin on a G2 so dont bitch me out. Right now Ive got my bezel all ripped out tryin to fix the HVAC buttons which it looks like Ill be needin a new one of those so it ya know of a Teg sittin around with one of those Ill gladly take it. Thanks in advance…

for the hesistation, it could be your transmission, you failed to mention if it was a stick or auto.

for the dome light. as to the best of my knowledge, the dome NEVER turned on after you shut the car off. the only time the dome turns on is when you open any of the doors. another side to this is if you have dome light supervision on your aftermarket alarm. dome light supervision will allow the dome light to turn on for 30secs or until you start the car or upon disarming the alarm with the remote.

fan – i think there’s a relay for that… but try a search on here. i’m sure it’s been brought up before…

tune-up – NGK is definitely a good name. Remember to check your timing and your timing belt. If it’s never been changed, you should do it very soon.

The tune-up could fix your idle problem, or it might not, but as long as your idle comes back up after it dips? It’s not a big deal… that means your IACV is working I believe.

And for the HVAC controls – did you read up the teg tips? I re-soldered my connections as the teg tip describes, and my buttons and lights work MUCH better.

I’ve got a 90GS that is pretty much stock. And as for the domelight I believe that it is “to old” to have the relay that turns the dome light on when the ignition goes off.

My 90 GS does the exact same thing … ie hesitation and idle problems.

I have done full tune up, except 02 sensor which will go in next week. Nothing has work so far. I hate it.

I’m gonna try and take out the IAC valve and clean it sometime this weekend, hopefully thats it.
