A little speaker help

I know that the da speakers are 6 1/2 all around but i dont understand the
concept of “over size aftermarket speakers”

i am planning to get some 6 1/2 aftermarket speakers and i just want to make sure i dont buy anything wrong

thanks ahead for the help

make sure the depth is ok, and if you dont plan on running an amp, find some that dont require alot of power

Your stock da speakers are standard 6.5", all standard 6.5" speakers use a 5" diameter mounting hole, [+/- 1/16"] and are round and use either a 3hole or 4hole mounting system, [although there are speakers that use a 5" diameter mounting hole and a 4hole mounting system that are not exactly a “standard” 6.5" speaker, Infinity is one of them]
Mounting depth of the stock speaker is just under 2", mounting depth of other standard 6.5" speakers can be as little as 1" and up to as much as 3.5" or so.

over-sized 6.5" speakers all use bigger then a 5" diameter mounting hole, size of mounting hole will depend on brand of speaker and even differ between models of a particular brand.

The size of the speakers is only one of the “parameters” you need to take into consideration when picking a speaker and it is not at the top of the list of things to consider.

Obviously the price of the speakers must be at the top of the list of things to consider, after price, [budget] is power handling/efficiency, [how much RMS power do you have, or plan to have, to drive the speakers] and last is the size of the speaker, [size of speaker is just as important as power handling/efficiency if not more so].

The size of the speaker will be determined mostly on your ability and tools avalable to install the speakers you end up with.

The installation of the speakers is critical to the SQ you will get out of them, that goes for whatever the size or quality of the speaker is, [a properly installed “entry level” speaker will outperform an improperly installed “high end” speaker] the same goes for powering the speaker, [a properly powered speaker will outperform an improperly powered speaker] the rule of thumb is “it’s better to be overpowered then underpowered”.

So the questions you need to answer are…

1- Budget
2- Amount of RMS power you have to drive the speakers.
3- Your ability to properly install the speakers.

Last but hardly least is the “sound” of the speakers, you need to “like” the way the speaker sounds, speakers sound different, take two seemingly identical speakers, same size, same power handling, same price, same install, same power driving them with the same music playing on them and they can sound compleatly different, one you may like the sound of the other you may hate.

It is important that you listen to the speakers and although speakers mounted to a demo board will not sound the same as when installed in your car it is still worth while to go to your local car audio shops and have a listen to the speakers you are thinking of getting.

Warranty does not cover “I don’t like the way they sound”.:corn: 94
