about to install B18c1

I’m about to do a GSR swap in my 91 integra just pick apexi safc2 was wondering if i can still use my pr4 ecu and just run the vtec to my safc ?

a regular SAFC cant run v-tec, and for the price of the one that can you can buy a chipped ECU with an actual map made for the motor instead of halfassed adjustments that the SAFC gives you

ok

yea that is one way of thinking but where can i find a ecu that is mapped for that motor?

What OBD is the GS-R motor? Is it USDM or JDM? OBD 1 or 2?
We know you’re OBD 1… being that your car is a 91. You might need a conversation harness. Check the sponsor’s section…you’ll find what you need there.
Xenocron is the man for this job!
-ronie

yup xenocron is the man, he can chip the ECU for you and give you the map you need

if its a stock GSR then that’s what he’ll chip for

ok

it was an obd1 gsr but the kid who had it before me converted it to obd0 it was in his 90 teg

My bad… I think the 90-91 are OBD 0. and the 92-93 are OBD1.
Are you running the Stock GS-R intake manifold?
I’m not sure but I think all 3rd gen GS-R’s have the 2 stage intake system…I’m not sure how that’s going to work for you. You might have to get an after market manifold.

i do have one skunk2 intake manifold for the motor i knew that the stock one would not fit

Then you are set…
You’ll need a chipable ECU which you might be able to get from Xenocron as well.

i was thinking about getting a (JDM)pr3 ecu and just going with that for now and see how it does if that don’t work out the way i like it then I’m going to get a obd1 chipped ecu

Why not take the guess work out of it and do it right the 1st time?

yea i think i’m just going to order the obd1 harness and a chipped ecu

Just hang in there a little longer, I’m sure some one that has done this before will chime in. In the mean time you should e-mail Xenocron and see of he has what you need and how much it will cost.
If the motor is OBD0, and your car is OBD0… then I’m assuming, all you need is the right ECU chipped with a GS-R base map.
??

ok just got a Pr3 ecu now will that work without chipping it for a gsr base map

There are two versions of the PR3 ECU, one is Pre-OBD (OBD0) and the other is OBD1. Which one did you get?

If your friend converted the engine to OBD0 and you got the OBD0 PR3 ECU, just plug it in, wire VTEC and you’re set. If the PR3 ECU is OBD1, you’re going to need a conversion harness and a pinned OBD1 VTEC distributor to plug into your stock OBD0 engine harness.

Whether the ECU is OBD0 or OBD1, if the engine still has the stock dual stage intake manifold, your car will run like shit becuase there is nothing programmed into the ECU to operate the butterfly valves. The PR3 is a B16A ECU. You would need to use the Skunk2 intake manifold unless someone is able to chip the ECU to operate the butterfly valves in the stock intake manifold.

got a skunk2 pro im but the ecu is obd0 ok thanks for the help

That just made your life easier

Good luck.

Good Advice KnOwLedGe…I too have a B18C1 and had similar problems. Luckily, it was a OBD1 95’ GS-R into a 93’ OBD1 teg. Biggest problems was trying to find a intake to run on the stock “Slug” Dual Butterfly manifold.

BLKGSRDA9, how do you like that JDM B18C?
Have you mod it at all yet?
Any weight reduction to your DB2?
Sorry for all the questions but I’m in the process of finding a replacement engine for my teg and is looking for personal feedback on the 1.8c.

budda bless kyle.

JAH bless you too.

Are you looking for a B18C longblock? Is the head on your B17A1 OK? If time is of no concern, why not try to find a B18C shortblock, or even a bare block and put some aftermarket internals into it?

The B18C is an awesome engine when mated to the short YS1 transmission.
