93 with a b18c1 chipped p28 and brand new RT cat.
Will it pass as is or should I use a stock P72 ECU for the smog test???
any help would be appreciated.
THANKS!!!
also… there’s a good chance the smog tech will ask, should I tell him it’s a 1.7 or a 1.8 liter motor? does it affect my results??
93 what? GSR? I’m wondering since you say ‘should I tell him it’s a 1.7 or 1.8 liter’ But, your tech will possibly NOT look at your ECU. As long as the CEL(MIL) isn’t blinking or on but works properly, he shouldn’t hassle you. However, if you have one of those smart cookies, he’ll know your B18C isn’t legal without BAR inspection. I assure you, if you run a chipped p28 that wasn’t tuned for fuel efficiency, you’re going to fail. I had to do a lot of handywork on my p30 to get it to pass. Thank god they don’t rip the ECU apart. BTW, I hate dyno smog tests.
If you’re really worried about it, take the ECU, unscrew it, and put the case that says p72 on it and screw it back together. Then, if he looks, it will appear to be a p72. I haven’t met a tech yet who says 'open up your ecu, i need to make sure it’s the right one. Just hope he doesn’t look where your plugs connect to your wiring harness… lol
