ABS Brakes

Thought I’d post this instead of e-mailing in case others can’t figur out the problem like I couldn’t

I have the sheet now so here is what was on the shop receipt

inspect brake fluid condition - good, ABS operating correctly, brake pulse related to normal operation and wear, see attached bulletin, accumulator ball has some wear which may or may not contribute to pulsation. Ball is $524.00 from dealer plus $33.00 labour
0.0h…$0.00

And here is the bulletin

TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN

ABS CLICKS ON BUMPS
Model: 86-95 Acura Models
Group: Brakes
Bulletin No.: ASN 0895-041
Date: August, 1995

SERVICE INFORMATION
A clicking noise when driving over severe bumps is a normal characteristic of an ABS-equipped Acura. The noise comes from the solenoids in the ABS modulator. If the bump causes a wheel to lose contact with the ground the rotational speed of that wheel may change. If the speed of one wheel isn’t the same as the others, the ABS control modul unit tries to correct the difference by operating the solenoids, even when the brake pedal isn’t depressed.

90integraGS
I’ve thought about it but I have driven maybe 800 km (Canada) since December so I’ll just live with it until spring when it warms up enough to make the noise stop. If it annoys me before then I’m going to take the whole thing out.

Do you know how to remove the ABS system without affecting the main braking system? I’ve thought about doing that too…but never had the guts to attempt that on my only car.

Pull the fuses that control the abs pump, check your manual for the location of the fuse.

I’m sure I could find someone to help take out the ABS a few people here have done it already.

The page on fuses is the one page I’m missing in the manual.

I have a 92 GS, and I get the same noise. But it’s only bad in winter. It will even make the sound when I first fire up the car if it’s been sitting in the cold for a while. Summertime, I don’t have it at all. When I need it, it works. Learned to live with it.

WOW I’m not crazy after all? I never even bothered to mention that to anyone for fear I might be looked at like a freak. I feel so releived now that I’m not the only one that hears that sound. Only happens to me about once every month.
Jim

Mine always happens in winter but after I wash my car it goes away sometimes for a day. I thought I was crazy too.

Once per month to hear that sound is normal!

Straighten up!

I suggest you guys read this article it will provide some insight on how your ABS system works. The strange sound you hear is the normal operation of the ABS compressor motor building up fluid pressure stored in the spherical reservoir located under your battery tray and front bumper. The ABS system must retain a minimal amount of hydraulic pressure to function properly. When your ABS system is activated pressure is utilized to invoke a pulsing hydraulic pressure to the callipers also over time pressure is dissipated from the spherical reservoir and changes with changes in temperature. When your car is started the ABS module checks the pressure if it is to low the pump is activated to build pressure to a minimal working level. Read it and if you have question I will answer them for you. ABS System

Mine too

My ABS could never build up enough pressure. Seals? Pump kept kicking on. The light codes to diagnose are above the rear wheel (passenger side) behind all the trim. Lots of work to get there.

NON-dealer mechanics (even Honda Specialists) say they don’t have the tools to diagnose ABS, only dealers do. They all agreed that I should expect a $400+ bill.

So…since ABS is a separate system, and not needed by me…out with the fuses!!

Any ideas on how to get the dummy light off?

how much does a abs system flush cost? do you know exactly whats involved?

DB2-

Some noise is normal but this noise is worse than normal. I had my car for about 4 years before it started making this weird humming, chirping, modem sound. It got worse and worse until I finally just pulled the ABS fuses. All better!! And now I’ve driven through two snowy winters without ABS and the car is still much more reliable then my old Trans Am was in the snow.
