My car has been spending most of it’s time sitting this winter but last week when I was driving it everytime I hit 10km/h (Canada) the ABS would pulsate once everytime on any road condition. I took it in and they found out my rear calipers were seized they should me how they were causing the pads to wear improperly and how it was messing up my rotors so $650 later my brakes stop me better but I have the same problem at 10km/h. Could it be my ABS system? If I panic stop to get the abs to turn on I also get a noise from the glove box area that sounds more like a dial up modem (best I can describe it) The noise is very noticeable but goes away about 5 seconds after I take my foot off the brakes. If this helps any I have a 92 GS 2dr stock brakes/suspension/wheels.
I have driven other cars with abs and the noise sounds nothing like the other cars or even my car in summer.
The ABS sysetm works off two sensors located on the front wheels. They read off of a band on each axel. Check this and make sure the clearance is in spec. You can also jack the car up and unplug the sensors and check to see if they produce voltage when you turn the wheels. They should produce a small reading on a voltage meter. There is an ABS coumpter that i belive is located behind the side pannel of the back seat on the drivers side. Not sure on how to check it. Good luck.
From what I understand if the ABS light on the dash comes on then if you check the computer it should flash light codes so you can figure out whats wrong but my ABS light turns off after a few seconds when I start my car so there shouldn’t be any error codes. I’ll be taking it back in to get checked on Wednesday it’s just too cold for me to play outside;)
WOW, i thought it was just my ABS system that made that noise, must be a malfunction of all g2 tegs with ABS, but ive tried to run and open the hood when it starts making that noise but i never make it in time, it stops, i just wanted to see exactly where it was coming from,!
Last night I was thinking of the ABS relay that’s between the intake box and passenger strut part but I’m not sure. If I can find this noise I’ll post it up but I’ve been trying to find it since last February. The brakes pulsating is new.
i don’t know too much about how the ABS works, but could it possibly be cuz the ABS Fluid is really, really old?? When you bleed the brakes, it only drains the REGULAR brake fluid… it doesn’t drain the ABS fluid… so what if you left the ABS fluid in the system too long?? just a thought…

Okay, a bit off-topic, but next time, do the work yourself. Not only will it educate yourself, know that it’s done right, and not spend the time with your girlfriend:p, you also save yourself a lot of $$$ (which you could spend on your girlfriend to make up for not spending any time with her that weekend :p).
Anyway, $650 sounds a lot for caliper, rotor, and pad replacement! Were all 4 done?
Regards,
Oz
My calipers were $151 each I can’t remember the other totals but the price includes GST and PST. I want to learn how to fix my car but for the brakes and abs I don’t trust my knowledge that much;) and I had the ABS fluid changed last February with all the other fluids.
This is a quick fix problem. The reason your abs pump keeps coming on is because you have air in the system. The reason the pump keeps coming on is because the system is trying to purge the air out. If it can’t, it’ll keep trying. What you have to do is go and get you ABS system flushed and possible replace a seal. If your abs systems kicks on once every 2 months, it’s considered normal purging of the system, but everyday, I’m afraid you have an air leak, or **** in your abs pump.
Get the system flushed, it’s the first and cheapest step! Hope this helped.

I thought of the air but electrical made more sense to me becasue the problem happens at the exact same time everytime I come to a complete stop. I’m no brake expert but I guess it could be air in there.
I stopped by to make an appointment and they took my car for a test drive with me. I pointed out the noise and he said it could be a valve/seal from ABS brake fluid being circulated but he’s not completly sure from a test drive. It’s still going on Wednesday morning.
IMO If I had a bad valve or seal this could cause air to leak in to my ABS fluid or make air bubbles causing my brake problem. Does anyone agree?
I just wrote the reason for the problem, you found out it was true, and now you want to know if I agree with YOU. You mean you agree with me. LOL ha ha, just playing with ya, but of course I agree, it was my idea!![]()

It’s $120 taxes incl. in Crappy Tire. And you also get a $50 rebate when you return your old caliper. So, that should be $70 each. Also, Ractive Xdrilled/Slotted rotors are $90 taxes incl. each. You might be able to get Brembo Xdrilled for the same price or lower. And KVR Carbon Fibre pads are $60-50 (depending if it’s front or rear) plus taxes. Or you can always get Raybestos Semi-Metallics from Wal-Mart for the same price, but you get that lifetime replacement thingy:p
Just FYI,

Sorry G2BLACK don’t know what I was thinking. It made sense to type it at the time now it sure doesn’t.
The_Oz I got my brake pads for $60 and about $40 for rotors for the rear and I’m going to check on the calipers and see if I missed something on the receipt. Unfortunately I needed my car back right away and didn’t shop around getting parts.:tsk: $100 is in taxes.![]()
No problemo!
I got the car back yesterday and everything is good and they couldn’t find a problem. They called the dealership and the only thing my shop and the dealership could come up with is this one part that cost $500+ dollars but only costs $30 to install. The part can stay at the dealer. They also sent over a dealer service bulletin but I don’t have it with me right now saying the ABS system can turn on when brakes aren’t applied to balance out the wheel speed and some other stuff. If someone wants the full bulletin I can post it up later or e-mail it to you.
Remember my prices are Canadian
I wouldn’t mind seeing the bulletin. Can you post it or e-mail it to me. jason@firstfin.com. Thanks in advance.![]()
My ABS makes that modem sound when it pulses–I had the dealer diagnose it. They said they needed to replace the ABS compressor for $1200(parts only) and THEN they can find the problem.
I took the ABS fuses out.
