Hi guys,
I have an AC leak coming out of the Low pressure valve. I try filling it w/ freon but after I disconnect the hose, the valve is leaking and won’t shut off. I tried removing the valve so I could replace it but it appears that there is a lip which prevents it from screwing all the way out. Has anyone ever replaced their valve or did you have to replace the entire hose?
Are you set up R12 Or R132
the valve comes out if you pull hard enough… just unscrew the valve until it spins freely, then either use a pick or needlenose pliers and pull it out. it is sometimes stuck in there pretty hard but it will come out if you keep pulling. if there is pressure in the system, you will have refrigerant and a little bit of oil come flying out of it.
keep in mind that it is illegal to vent your a/c system on purpose. just giving you the heads up. and if you are still using r12, now would be the time to convert it. r134 is alot cheaper anyway. you may not even be able to get r12.
Thanks for the info. I’ll give it a shot. FYI, it uses R12 but I’m using the environmental friendly replacement. I’ve used it before and it works great. The freon leaked out when I tried charging it up. It still had a little left in it ( just enough pressure for the valve to hold) as it got cold for a little while while driving. After I had driven a distance and parked, I could hear a huge leak so I popped the hood and it was coming out of the valve. I guess after driving, the heat builds up more pressure in the system which forced the rest out of the bad valve.
Environmental friendly R12 alternative ftw!
Yeah, right at your face!
Don’t vent a pressurized system by pulling the valve out. Seriously. Have the refrigerant captured properly, then fix the leak.
