act or xtd ?

Im in the market for a new clutch. I either wanna go with xtd stage 3 which ive had before it felt close to stock but gripped hard as hell until I blew my tranny. I took it out and looked like new after 1000 miles. Or im thinking of going with an act extreme pressure plate with performance disc. I only have basic intake, headers , exhaust on my car. Its my dd and I plan on installing a 75 shot of nitrous on my car.

exedy stage 1. dont get something to agressive. you’ll regret it. i know i did.

The xtd i had wasnt too bad. I kinda want longevity and ability to not slip with the 75 shot.

i have the xtd stage 3 right now. yea it grabs hard. chirps 3rd. it is a nasty clutch for cheap $$. but i wouldnt reccomend anybody buy this clutch. for some reason its always high up on the pedal. my adjustment screw is all the way loose and its still pretty high up. same prob with 3 of my friends car. with cable or hydro trans. but i will say it is a very good clutch for the money.

but if i could do it again i would have bought a exedy stage 1. i had it in my other integra and i loved it.

How hard does the exedy stage one grab? Also how many miles are on your xtd right now?

unless ur putting down decent power the extreme pp is gonna be to much. i’d suggest the heavy duty pp from act and the street/drag disc. i loved mine when i had it

Is there anyplace where I can by xtd parts individualy. I see that the stage 4 xtd clutch has a heavier pressure plate. I wanna get the heavier pressure plate with the 6 puck.

so would this be a good choice for a turbo dd? i only wanna push like 10lbs trying to hit 300hp MAX like 250 normal: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/XTD-STAGE-2-RACING-CLUTCH-FLYWHEEL-90-91-INTEGRA_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ33730QQihZ007QQitemZ170219053389QQrdZ1QQsspagenameZWDVW

Anyone ever use an lsd clutch? http://lsdmotorsports.com/merchant2/merchant.mvc?Store_Code=LSD01&Screen=CTGY&Ref=Drivetrain&Car=AC,HO,SS&Prod=L200&Pname=LSD%20Clutch%20Kits&Category_Code=L200-Acura

Never heard of xtd, but act makes some good stuff. I have the exedy organic racing clutch, I like it a lot.

What you need to realize is that “grabbing hard” isn’t necessarily what you want, it may even be a bad thing if you’re giving a “shock” to your trans every time to engage a new gear.

Is this a street car? Drag? Autocross? Track whore? Road Racer? What kind of horsepower are you putting down?

Personally I’d recommend something more mellow and hopefully a little cheaper then get yourself a lighter flywheel, or have your stock one lightened. I see there being a lot more benefit in a lighter flywheel than splitting hairs over which clutch to use. Plus, if you’ve got a lighter flywheel a stiffer more grippy clutch is going to be even less streetable which means you don’t need some crazy aggressive clutch.

I already do have a lighten flywheel 8.5 pounds. This will be my dd/autox car.
Right not I have my basic bolt ons. But im debating wether or not im going to go boost during the summer. Driving isnt the issue for me. Like ive said before I had the xtd stage 3 with the lighten flywheel before.

i have about 5000 miles on it right now. i broke it in for 500 miles. and it still grabs like new. it has seen alot of abuse and countless launches. for a track car i would say this clutch is perfect. but for a daily driver i would never reccomend it.

i am pulling it out soon and replacing with Exedy stage 1.

Wich clutch the xtd or the act?

i suggest you stay away from XTD like the plague…

read about all the problems on h-t and about their scam.

just google in “xtd scam” and you’ll get your info.

you dont need a extreme PP… get the ACT HDSS prolly the best clutch for your setup… as for the XTD and your experience… most cars if not driven THAT hard will notice almost minimal wear after 1000 miles. so that doesnt mean its all that great. I have no experience with them however personally

thats what i run, and i love it. daily driver too. pedal is stiffer, but livable, and clutch engages smoothly. had mine for at least 3 years now on a 200whp all motor setup

How about a competition stage 2?

i only use ACT, no reason for me at least to try anything else… this is my 4th one. I can only provide my experience…

i’m sure there are also other good clutches out there… but i’d seriously think they’re going to be quite similar unless you have a specific application. ACT btw does not have “stages” its either head duty pp or extreme pp, and you decide what material to run, stock disc, street disc, 6 puck spring, 6 puck no spring… 4 puck

you can always try a OEM ITR clutch… had one of those too… not too bad

yea u were right check this out http://www.supramania.com/forums/showthread.php?t=43713

for the lazy ones.

"We are having clutches made for us by Action Clutch. They make us an upgraded pressure plate that is 40% heavier spring pressure then stock. Recently, someone brought to my attention the they could buy the “same thing” on Ebay for over $200 less. I was REALLY supprised to hear that, because we don’t have a lot of margin on ours, and I was wondering if we were just paying way too much, or if it was too good to be true. Since XTD is only about a 45 minute drive from the shop, I went there in person to check it out. He seems to do a lot of business on Ebay, there were about 20 orders boxed up to go out, and since many of them were not taped up, I noticed that he had more then a few 7m-gte clutches to be shipped. At the bottom of a huge stack of Aisin (oem toyota) boxes, I saw a few Action clutch boxes. That was strange, because Action said the do not sell anything to this guy, and they were wondering why he had their boxes in his business. I found out why!

I bought one of his pressure plates to take to Action to test, and to take pics compared to stock. THE XTD PRESSURE PLATE IS A BONE STOCK PRESSURE PLATE, SPRAY PAINTED RED. We had Action put it on their pressure test machine that tests the clamp pressure, and also a stock Aisin Toyota pressure plate. The XTD clutch was actually 100ft/lbs LESS then the other stock unit we tested. His Ebay auction clearly states the XTD pressure plate is “35% thicker heavy duty” spring in it. I measured the XTD and stock springs, they are exactly the same thickness. He is clearly lying, and fooling people into thinking the XTD clutch will handle 35% more, when in fact it is stock. If you remove the XTD sticker, you will see the stock green paint mark underneath If they were heat treated to increase the spring pressure, that paint would most likely have burned off, and the spring would be discolored.

Also, I looked closely at the XTD 6 puck disk. It looks like a cheap copy of the Action one. If you look at the pics in his Ebay auction at the top it is an ACTION CLUTCH KIT IN THE PICS. The one he actually ships is in the pics at the bottom. Action clutch does use a stock Aisin outer clutch cover, but the rivets are drilled out, and then the spring is upgraded and the clutch is reassembled. Other companies also do this, because Aisin is the only manufacturer of this model clutch."

there are pics on that site.

xtd stage 3 (six-puck ceramic) for the win. it welds to the flywheel after the 500 mile break in. but even after the first mile, no slip on a un-resurfaced flywheel. Defiantly for the experienced driver, seeing that you are unlocking the potential of the car, especially if you have only used the oem organic slip clutch. i would recommend new axles along with this clutch…

also, the xtd clutch is of high standard and is worth the $150 bucks. I don’t buy into competitive mudslinging. If it works for me, than eff what everyone else thinks. when i see exedy prices i keel over in pain. but i just think thats because im frugal :shrugs: thats just my “way of the ninja” lol

Would this be a good clutch as a factory replacement? Would it also be good if in the future I were to upgrade to a lighter flywheel?
