Adjusted TPS, now car hesitates when accelerating. from stop.

My DA has been running extremely rich since I bought it. Poor gas mileage…Strong fumes from exhaust. I just got around to running various tests and found that the only thing that was out of spec was my tps. Well I adjusted the tps and It’s now putting the correct voltages at closed throttle and WOT. And it seems to be operating smoothly across the range with the voltage increasing steadily across the full range of motion of the throttle.

All vac lines are good, no leaks…no CEL…alot less fumes from my exhaust which is great, and the car seems to rev like never before. It’s great as far as that goes. But… for some reason the damn thing hesitates for a sec when accelerating from a dead stop. Like the car moves forward slowly and then WHAM! acceleration. Feels like boost kicking in.

Im thinking the TPS is just on its way out? It was putting out .3 volts before I adjusted it…and after I adjusted it to read .5 volts and 4.6 or whatever the spec was at WOT. What do you think? Any suggestions on what to check or anyone else experience this?

Sounds like a dead spot in the sensor. If you let off the gas or give it more will it stop hesitating? If you haven’t been playing with anything else then I would just replace the sensor. Make sure to set the new one as well. You can test it with a voltmeter but the read out probably won’t pick up the bad spot in the sensor. You would need like an oscilloscope for that.

Ahh…A dead spot. I figured these things just go completely bad all at once. I’ll swap it out as soon as I can and see how that goes. Any suggestions on what brand to buy? Honda does not offer the tps without the throttle body correct?

Thanks for your input.

I put a blox one on my integra last year and no problems. If you want oem I think you’re correct you have to get a whole throttle body. If you’re comfortable setting the new sensor to spec then I would just buy the sensor itself since you’ll save a few bucks.

Update The issue went away. On the drive to work this morning the there was no hesitation at all. Same for the drive home from work. Hopefully it stays this way.

I wouldnt get your hopes to high on that:shrug:
