Has anyone else noticed how ridiculously high the prices are for parts at Advance Auto and Autozone are? I used to buy from them A LOT but now I’m sticking with Rockauto and Amazon because literally, they are twice the cost if not more. They barely have coupons anymore either.
I have not bought a damn thing from a local parts store in years. O’rilley alternators in particular have been doing a lot of damage to peoples’ cars. Ive seen three overcharge at 18v and fry electrical system components including ecus and integrated control units. A friend of mine used his employee discount to buy a clutch for his RSX-S and it lasted ONE FREAKING DAY until the disc shredded under normal driving. Autozone does seem to be a lot better for alternators and starters though. Yes price has gotten expensive what I ended up doing, I found a autozone reman in a car at pick n pull. Found the driver’s name and phone number inside the vehicle. Ended up verifying the warranty and using it a few times lol. Its now over $300 for an alternator, $250 for a starter there these days.
Its best to just find a local rebuilder than to use the big chain stores.
I’ve heard that too – rebuilding the OEM alternators is a much better idea. But finding a shop that does that is very difficult.
