how can i do this?
1st make sure you’re wearing rubber gloves-so you don’t get shocked(it hurts!). (with engine running) loosen the lug nut on the distributor and move the distributor all the way to the front-tighten and drive. If you hear pinging-retard it a little (move it closer to original-firewall) and do it again-until there’s no pinging. This is how i did it- if i’m wrong i would like to be corrected!
You are not going to want to do it how TIroneous did it. That way does work, but you should really do it right if you like your teg.
First off, get an advanve timing light. It is a special timing light with an adjustable knob on it. Considering the fact that your ignition is set to 16 degrees BTDC, you will want to go to 18 BTDC. Do that by advancing the gun 2 degrees and check your timing. Just move your distributor around until you get it in time.
You dont need any rubber gloves either. Just loosen the 3 distributor bolts before you start your car, then do the adjusting. Once you get it to where it needs to be just tighten the top distributor bolt and then make sure it didnt knock it out of time. If all is well, turn your car off and tighten your distributor back to spec.

well my engine has been ticking" ever since it was installed…i’ve adjusted the idle to make it run smoother-but i was thinking it was something loose in the head- like rocker/slight floating valve etc.
Yeah, it sounds like your due for a valve adjustment…
