Alright so I leave work as it starts to rain really heavy. Drive home perfectly fine, clutch feels normal, tranny shifting normal, no issues. Car is parked for about an hour and a half(covered parking) and when I go to leave again…I push the clutch in, start the car, and I can’t shift into any gear with the clutch pushed down. Turn the car back off and it goes into all gears like it should(clutch up or down). First reaction is that clutch is done, obviously…
but my question is…and please humor me…
Is the clutch done even with normal pedal feel and when it had no issues an hour before?
or
Is it possible it got so wet that its causing it to act like this?(possibly not engage correctly?)
Where I park, rain tends to make a lake, but it couldn’t have been deeper than 2 inches and I creeped through to my parking spot. This may be just another dumb question on here, but I just find it weird it worked fine then it suddenly doesn’t without any warning. So I’m hoping someone else has experienced this. Thanks in advance.
Do you have the dust cover on the housing under the car? It might just be water but unlikely. You might need to adjust the cable as it might of gotten wet and slipped just a little that you can’t shift.
No dust cover…that’s why I’m wondering if that was possible to get so wet in there that it will not engage, cause the water possibly could have been deep enough to hit the housing…I’m just not sure. I’m letting it dry out before I mess with it again, but I’ll try adjusting the cable and see what happens.
Tried adjusting cable and no dice. I tried to put it into reverse with the clutch down and it caught like it wasn’t pushed in at all. Looks like I’ll have to pull the tranny now. Oh happy day.
Since I’m pulling it off I might as well ask. Are you supposed to lube the shaft inside the tranny at all?? and if so with what? Im talking about the shaft the throw out bearing slides on btw.
I did. I used purple gear grease on mine. Just don’t put to much as it can spin off and get on the clutch. But some people would say don’t,cause the grease will attract dust and dirt and can scratch the shaft. But that’s what the dust cover is made for.lol
So apparently the water played some kind of part cause I go and try it again today and it works perfectly normal, weirdest thing ever. I’m not on drugs I swear.
it deff can be water in where the dust shield should be, but I Know this --ive done this to a pit bombing teg it takes a high amount of water to do it, meaning you may think you are going slow through that puddle but maybie not, i have been driving the past week in heavy New England rain no dust cover on my daily DA and im fine but i drove through a 3-4 inch puddle in my pit car and it always slips then dries and is fine-so if you gotta puddle it to the spot put that dust cover on-if you need one but cant find it i have one you can have-you will have to pay shipping GOOD LUCK
