Advice Painting my spoiler, side mirrors, and moldings

Hey fellow tegger’s,
I just recently bought a 1991 Integra RS at a really good price but didn;t realize I was lacking so many options. Its a great car and loving every minute of it.

My car is frost white according to the color codes and I was fortunate to come across a oem spoiler for $20. The problem is the color on the spoiler is red and faded. I actually want to try and paint this spoiler myself and was wondering if anyone can offer any advice on the process. The paint i bought is color code matching.

I also want to paint my moldings and mud guards. Should i take it out and paint it or put tape around the moldings and paint intacked with the car? The side mirrors are currently black and it doesn;t seem to match the car. Can anyone offer any advices on how to paint it white. Your advice will be much appreciated. Can;t wait til you guys have a meet around Frisco. Never been to one of those before. Have a great day guys, drive hard!.

Hey dude. Im painting my entire car. So i guess i have some words of advice. =) Take your side moldings off before painting them. They just slide out. Towards the front end of the car. Try not to break the clips they’re on - but if you do, you can get em for like $4 a piece at the acura/honda dealer. You should take your mirrors off too. Pop the triangular black piece off on the inside of the door, then there is 3 screws that need to come out. If you have pwer mirrors, then there is 3 wires running to mirrors. You can either take the entire mirror apart, or just cut wires and rewire em’ when your done. The spoiler should be easy - its off teh car, correct? If not , take it off from the bolts underneath. Sand all pieces with about a 400 grit paper, (the spoiler, use about a 300, its got paint on it now) Degrease. Use a primer/filler style primer, and shoot all the pieces. I reccomend PRIMING IS A MUST! Shoot about 2 coats. Sand with a 600 grit paper lightly to smooth. If theres sanding marks, spead some glazing putty on. Sand that a little bit with say an 800 grit. Make sure everything is grease / dirt free. Try tackcloths if anything is dusty. Then shoot the paint. I recomend a lacquer paint, only cus it dries in 20 mins. Then shoot it with a urethane clear coat. That will take about 24 hours to fully harden. Voila. Buff, etc. (later later later on) Sorry this got kinda brief. I got kinda tired. =)

Thanks for the advice. I’m kinda afraid to take the moldings out though so i think i’ll just put masking tape around it. As soon as its all done, I’m gonna post up some pics.

:gotpics:

What masking tape did you use? I have found that regular 3M masking tape just rips off some finishes when removed. I have heard that this Blue Paint Tape is the best to go with and can be found in paintshops. Agree?
