air or power steering

Should i cut my air ,or power steering belt, can i even cut these at all on a gs model. I don’t like how touchy my steering is after 90 mph. The air dosen’t work and have no plans on fixing

cut the return line on the power steering turn the car on turn the steering wheel back and forth untill the fluid is drained then cut the belt and rip out the fluid resevouir.

are there any repercussions to this? will it still be in good condition if you decide to put them back on?

as long as you remeber what hoses go where i suppose you could put it back on. I would not ever think about puting mine back on.i dropped a full half second off my quarter mile just from cutting the belt. That weekend i removed the pump and everything

do you literally mean cut the belt and drain it or just remove the belt? i guess i want to keep my car for at least 4 more years before i sell it.

so theres nothing else you need to do besides that? no check engine or ecu codes? the steering is fine, it doesnt get super hard anywhere?

pwr or muscle steering!!!

Ask youself few questions…Like!!!

  1. Do I need power steering/ac?
  2. How often do you drive at 90 mph?
  3. If u want to increase speed/time @ 1/4 mile is it worth it!!!
  4. What if u want to sell the car? …Is it easier to sell with p/s & a/c or without!!!

Only u can make that decision…after all it’s your car!!!

What I would do …take off the belt(s) and see if it feels right… you can always put them back…cheap fix!!!

my 2 cent worth!!!

Cheers.
Phil

Re: pwr or muscle steering!!!

  1. i dont think any of my previous cars had ps heh. so as long as making a u-turn doesnt make me sweat its ok.
  2. maybe once or twice a week when im on the freeway ya. it seems fine
  3. power never hurts
  4. hm how much work is it to put back on

oh and i’d only do the ps. i need the a/c. but it is winter tho…
bet ya didnt think i was gonna answer them did ya =P

Heyyo… so I see what u saying bout removing fluid resevouir and belt for the power steerin… I got my '91 GS two weeks ago, and my power steering fluid has been leakin and I don’t feel like replacin the fluid resevouir right now… if I remove those I should be ok, right??
