Ghetto cold air intake, just but a whole in the bottom of you airbox, get some plastic tubing and run it down the whole, then attach an intake on the bottom.
I don’t know how much it actually helped, but it was a fun idea. The guy I bought the car from did this, told me about how it works… And I just put on a Focuz short ram intake, so it’s kinda like a full cold air… kinda. But this way is safer during the rainy season too, I have 2 air filters… kinda redundant, but oh well.
Yeah, I dunno how much it works… But I don’t think it helps much.
{EDIT}
Okay, so after I show my friend (my performance consultant, lol) The pictures of the mod he laughed. He said that I was actually restricting the flow of air, so I think I’m gonna try and kill the bottom filter and put like a funnel or something to catch the air and direct it upwards.
the second air filter that is connected to the bottom of the stock air is doing nothing at all for you! there is no vaccum for the second air filter to be sucking up any air. the short ram is not gonna be pulling any extra air from that at all unless the filter in the engine bay is enclosed in the stock air box. ex. comptech icebox.
i don’t understand why it was even done in the first place. there is nothing to be gained from adding an air filter to the bottom of the stock air box in conjunction with a short ram.
p.s it wouldn’t be called a cold air intake because both parts aren’t connected together. meaning the short ram pipe is not pulling in air from the second air filter.

your not restricting any air flow at all because the engine is not even sucking up any air from that second air filter. you have no air flow hinderance because your running a short ram.
no offense, but i would consult someone else for performance questions if he’s telling you that a un-hooked(not connected to engine, meaning no vaccum) up air filter is causing an air flow restriction.
put like a funnel or something to catch the air and direct it upwards.
now your thinking correctly, but just remember, this would only be benefical only when the car is moving.
if you wanna get even more creative, cut up the top lid of the stock air box so it will allow you to fit the short ram air filter inside the box. this will create a pressurized air box. very similiar to the comptech icebox.
yeah id take the bottom one off but the short ram looks great haha. you already switched the filter!!! good luck with it… do you feel any difference or hear anything?

I added a little funnel thing to kind direct the air up a bit, but that Comtech Icebox idea sounds pretty damn good, I’m gonna go buy some sheetmetal and make one of my own soon… but for now the ehem vacuum attachment under my car will work fine.
Looking down the modded airbox:

just make sure you get the idea of the comptech icebox before building one.
check it out on their website first. to give the jist of it, its bascially a box with a cone filter inside, a pipe leading behind the turn signal with a air horn(funnel) to pull air in. the box has to completely seal off the air filter to create a pressurized enclosure. bascially like a stock intake from a 94+ integra.
edit: after seeing pics of that air horn, i would suggest not using that as an air horn. its not smooth enough to direct/pull air in. try something like a speaker port from those subwoofer boxes. you want the edges of the funnel to be rolled.
Yeah Aero, that setup is sick, I would do that, my friend has a similar setup on his Camaro, but I need my headlights… gotta be street legal, it’s my only car/daily driver.
My other idea was to get that triangle right above the air filter on our hood removed, it’s a perfect fit, but I don’t know how I would close it for rainy season, and so people don’t mess with my can, a vented scoop would work, but rain would still get in…
Any ideas anyone?
SE-37K: the original color of the car is Jasper Green, but it’s a custom baby blue now.
what about the fact the icebox goes from the high pressure/velocity funnel to the low p/v box, then finally into the intake arm? doesnt sound very good to me…
Is the Icebox supposed to be pressurized, or under vacuum? To pressurize the box would require that air horn to be exposed to the front of the car, and I’m not sure that it could really provide a decent level of pressure. If it is instead under vacuum from the engine, this would essentially make it a multi-part CAI with the filter enclosed to reduce noise levels. It would also probably not posess the resonance of a CAI like the AEM, and lack the AEM hump.
Grr. I pussied out and took the whole airbox out… I’m thinking of removing the fog lights and setting up a scoop type thing from the wholes… or maybe I’ll just leave it.
GRRRR: I got pulled over last night becuase my “exhaust” was too loud (cop really meant my intake, stock exhaust for me) but he said since I JUST got the car he’d let me go.
