Alarm brain fried

I just finished installing my Aladdin 2000 alarm and the brain fried! What causes it to do that? Doesnt the fuses go first?

Fuses will only save you like 90% of the time… trust me, I figure this stuff out the hard way. You most likely created a ground loop or a short that fried out the unit. Make sure the ground of the alarm is connected to SOLID ground (as in CAR BODY), not any black wires you find sitting around. Also, test the wires you’re tapping into with a multi-meter. Look for 12 (engine off) and 14.4 volts (engine running), ignition on/off tests, etc.

Usually, when wiring is questionable, you KINDA know where you screwed up, SO, which wire weren’t you too sure about, when you hooked it up?

I mean when the alarm was installed, it armed and unarmed and stuff. But when it came down to starting the car. There was no wires running to the clutch because I couldnt fine those wires. So when I got start my car…I push in the clutch and the car tries to start but doesnt turn over. I was like what the hell? Then I just heard a constant beep from the brain and I smelled something burning. I dont think I crossed wires because everything was taped nice and I tested those wires.

BTW: Where the hell are the clutch wire for remote start. There’s a plate with a bolt on it but no wires running?

The clutch wire you are refering to is attached to the clutch switch just above the clutch pedal. It is a BLACK/BLUE wire and all you need to do is tie it to ground to circumvent the clutch-engagment safety feature.

Also, did you hook up the RPM sensing wire to the BLUE tach signal wire? If you don’t, the alarm will keep turning your car over and over until you blow your starter because without that wire, it will think your car isn’t runing after starting it - even if it has.

If you are smelling things you shouldn’t, then perhaps you should have someone with slightly more experience look over your wiring for you.

i didnt even attempt to put in remote start even though its an option. There wasn’t a wire going to the clutch. So when I pressed the clutch in the car attempted to start. It’s just weird, the key wasnt even in the ignition when i did that.

Well it sounds like it engaged your starter, but not your ignition. But why it did it when you pushed in the clutch when you didn’t hook up the bypass, I don’t know. Maybe something else triggered it and you pushing in the clutch is a coincidence. I’m guessing the problem is somewhere in the programming. If you didn’t hook up the remote start, then make sure it isn’t programmed in. Usually if the alarm has that feature, it comes pre-programmed with it turned on. That’s probably what you saw.
