Hey there, My alternator on my 1990 gs was acting up so I switched it out for another alternator. When I rev the engine, it puts out a maximum of 18.5volts at which point my headlights get very bright, wipers go super fast and the stereo shuts off. My old alternator did this, along with my new alternator. I dont know what the chances of two alts having the exact same problem here I am.
I would hate to have to replace this again as its a PITA, but is there a way I can install an external voltage regulator?? Like say from another vehicle??
Well how about that, someone else from Kelowna B.C.
I assume the alt. you installed was a used one, in which case it also having a blown voltage regulator is probably pretty good, if it was a new or reman alt. the chances of it being bad are low and the chances it having the same problem are very slime.
With that said, it seems you do have the same problem, voltage regulator issue.
It would be more work, and expense, to install an “off board” voltage regulator, better to bite the bullet and pick up a new or reman from Wyatt or Nappa, or possibly a rebuild kit. 94
Well thats what I was afraid of. Yea it was a “new looking” used from pnp. I didnt enjoy changing it the first time; pain in the ass! Ah well, I’ll go new this time if they’re not too expensive.
You must work at Lordco?? I got the same price when I called in, Miller and whyatt is $216 plus cor list at $360 I know for a fact I’ll be heading to the wreckers.
I know there is at least one G2 at Interior Metal Recycling in Winfield, I have not seen one at Pick & Pull, Honest Al did have a few, but he is gone. 94
