Whenever i turn my stereo above a certain volume is seems to be straining the alternator. At night my headlights dim. I never had this problem before. I was wondering whether I can buy a more powerful alternator. My belts are due to be changed so i wonder if that could be the problem. Any ideas would be helpful.

Get a new battery bud. It will stop straining the alt. What is happening is when you battery gets old, it can handle the extra amperes, so your alternator has to compensate by putting more juice into the battery, but cant keep up with the demand instantly know what i mean? Its like a time delay of sorts. Replace the battery ok? That will cure your problem. Get a good battery too, with a 5 year warranty and at least 600 Cranking Amps.
