I did it this morning. I went and bought a bottle of Tamiya Clear orange paint (# X-26), Threw a couple of coats on the 5 bulbs that light up the guages…and there it is. For some reason in the pics It didnt pic up color the needles, Theyre still white though…You just cant see em in the pics.
The pics really dont do the guages justice.
tell me what you all think.
Frank, you just saved me $6.50 a bulb for type-R bulbs that are solid orange (hehe, because thats just what im lookin for). But I have looked at Hobby Lobby and MJDesigns and Micheals and cannot find that paint . Maybe a G2IC member could tell me where to get some in Texas ? Any help on where to get that stuff would be appreciated. I’ll send you guys pics when I’m done, I won’t stop until the whole dash is orange. Frank, I owe you one .

Is it easy to get the bulbs out? I am actually having problems with my bumper light burning out on me. I have noticed that Honda bulbs last longer. But the problem is they are clear, so what I was thinking was to paint them yellow to match the JDM fogs color. Instead of spending $5 every time a bulb burns out, I can paint them myself and they will last longer. How hard is it to paint the bulbs?
Frank, that is dope!!!I was thinkin the same exact thing bcuz i still have alot of clear orange tamiya paint leftover from my bumper lights…One suggestion to you that i’m gonna try…put some of the paint on the lights coming from the top of the cluster…i already painted my needles to look like the ITR needles…Painting the back lights and overhead lights should finish the job!!! Good lookin out!
Very clean and original! Im glad you stayed away from anything and everything Indiglo in your guage cluster . They remind me a little of the BMW clusters. Hope to see/hear more of your car in the future.
I used permanent red marker, a “Sharpie”. I did ALL the bulbs in my dash, including the center console and fog light, defrost …all buttons. But what made the nicest difference was the red shining down from the top of the speedo cluster, it made the needles glow red! Like they had red light coursing through them. Unfortunately I only figured out after I reinstalled everything that one of the two bulbs shining down on the face was burnt out, along with one behind the air vent buttons.
I suggest replacing your originals first to maximize the effect, your bulbs are at least 9 years old.
My low gas warning light comes on red, and just gets redder, and redder…

Its easy to get to the lights.
You just have to remove the Plastic panel under the steering coulumn (3 screws total, 2 on the side, One behind the coin tray)
The panel around the guage cluster (7 screws, 1 on each side of the steering column, 2 above the guage cluster, 2 behind the temperature controls, and one to the right under that lil plastic cover). Be careful, the part around the two vents is very delicate.
Then the cluster itself. I think theres just 2 screws on the bottom of the cluster. Disconnect the Speedo cable.
The bulbs that need to be painted are the ones that have Brown Sockets (you’ll see what I mean). Take the Blue condom thingys off first. And Clean all the bulbs good before you paint them. You might want to clean them with alcohol after that.
Installation is the reverse of removal. !But putting the speedo cable back on is a bish! I warn you!
Im not sure if its a good idea to paint your bumper bulbs though, as those get really hot. The paint might not be able to take the heat.
