So ever since I bought my car it has sometimes made this annoying squeal which is really only an issue when I’m driving at low speed such as driving around a parking lot. Lately it has been getting worse and when I’m driving really slow it will non stop make the noise. I’m thinking of replacing the alternator belt but I just wanted to see if anyone had any input as to what might be causing this noise.
worn or loose belt.
worn or loose belt.
So you’re referring to the alternator belt then?
Yup the alternator belt is loose or worn. Just get a gates racing belt if you willing to spend the extra bucks. The gates racing belts are beast mode. Regular belt should be like 9 or $10 bucks
I see, thanks man I will look into getting one soon.
if its not your belt than its your Speedo cable…
I already know my speedo cable is out of whack because that makes noise too lol. Completely different sound though.
I’ll just toss this in the mix, but commonly the squealing belt in these cars is the Power Steering belt… They tend to get a bit worn & if the PS pump seals start to go this gets exacerbated by PS fluid spraying in the engine bay …
Look at the underside of your hood in the area above your PS pump… is there a buncha blackish spatter?
If so you have your answer… Replace the pump seals & change the belt. There are articles here for how to do it I’ll let you search.
Probably a belt. Take off the accessory belts one by one (power steering and then a/c) to determine the cause.
My squealing was worn power steering belt. Only happened when it got wet tho.
Just get a flashlight and look at the belts, if they are cracking then repalce them.
So I just got my car back from having the timing belt/water pump, ps belt and alternator belt replaced with new gates parts and the noise still persists. I have no idea what this is but it is driving me crazy. It does not necessarily start when I accelerate as it also happens when I’m coming to a stop.
can you make a video of the noise?
Could be corrosion on a pulley. Try spraying them with some sort of lubricant
