Another Header Install Question

I’ve searched through the header install threads but I can’t seem to find a good answer.

I ordered headers a little while ago, and started installing them. I followed the Haynes replacement procedure.

Step 1: Remove heat shield…
crap

I can’t pull it out of the top, it gets wedged between the block and the A/C piping. I can’t pull it out of the bottom because there is a forward brace.

Do I need a cut-off wheel for this, or is there just a different way to get this off?

Thanks in advance and sorry if I missed and old topic that discussed about this.

You need to unbolt the bracket that holds the a/c tubing from the top where the radiator cap is to ur left. should be 3 screw in size of 10mm.

Now you would also need to remove the other bolt which i believe is also a 10mm if not a 12mm located nearby the battery. Once all that is done carefully pull or push the a/c tubings away from the header etc. you’ll have to kinda til it a lil bit to get it to move out of there. Don’t worry take your time and it shall come out. Through the top that is…

Now get back to work following the manuall you got or go on www.autozone.com and find the online manual and follow through

Will I need to recharge the A/C if I do that? That was my main concern with touching those pipes.

Also you said remove the other bolt near the battery, what is it bolted to? Is it on the Heat Shield, is it another A/C pipe bracket, or is it something else?

Thanks.

yea its another bracket of some sort and its the one closer to the battery but still on the tubings. Do not unscrew the ac tubing as freon would come out, but just remove what i mention ( above) the brackets to hold down the a/c tubes and try to push it to the side a bit so u have working area to remove the heatshield. It will still be tight space in there but enough that you should be able to remove it.

Personally i have a big hand and i was able to remove it so you should be able to do just fine.

I do not have pictures otherwise i would circle out exactly what u need done to remove your heatshield.

Here’s a picture, not the greatest angle.

radiator fan connector the green one and the yellowish one between it is the bolt nearest to the battery. The bracket sits next to the radiator cap Yellow (cap) remove those 3 10mm bolt and thats it. mess around with it to get your heatshield off. This is the final answer you’ll get because its pretty much right in your face. Good luck

Thanks again for the help.
