another shifting issue

Okay,

Mentioned before I was having problems shifting into first and reverse. The mechanic said it was the shift linkage because the bushings were starting to go. So he switched it out and guess what, it is still doing the same thing. Also when shifting between gears I am noticing a bit of resistance from the shifter itself. Could this be I need a new gear box?

Has anyone else had a similar issue and if so what was the problem?

reverse is always hard to get into since it has no synchro. first however should go in smoothly, but with these old cars the synchro’s are starting to get used. especially on honda’s.

so you are saying the integra has no synchro or are you saying the synchro is going bad and I need a next one?

Going into first as you said is very easy, but i meet a little bit of resistance in the gear box when going from 1st to 2nd, 2nd to 3rd, etc. etc.

Do you know of the b18c5 (type r engine) and tranny has the synchro? I plan to do this engine swap when I get the money up. Will be awhile though seeing as how I want the engine to be rebuilt with toda parts so thats added cost.

Wild Style - When your shifting into gear does it grind (make a noise going into gear)? If so, then your tranny is bad, could have it replaced with another cable tranny or just rebuild it.

And about the B18C5, you can use the motor but not the tranny due to it being hydro and ours are cable unless you do the Cable-to-Hydro Conversion… I’ll said just get a JDM B16 w/LSD or w/o LSD and your set with the B18C5.

no, no grinding at all.

Only thing I have noticed, sometimes when I shift, the rpm will go high but it feels like its not engaged, then it slips into gear, again this is after i have shifted.

When was the last time you replaced your clutch? if you havent it could be that clutch

i got the car in June. previous owner told me it needed a clutch.

I wanted to hold off till I get a proper amount of cash up cause i wanted to get a fadanza

the clutch would make shifting (the actual movement of the shifter) not smooth?

replace the clutch…and your problem will be fixed.

If the actual shifting it’s self isnt smooth then that should be your bushing. From the way you describe it sliping and then catching then it should be your clutch.

switched out the shift linkage. Would the bushing be a part of that? If so that didn’t fix the clunky shifting problem I am having.

As for the clutch, that is in the works. Hey guys if I buy a clutch and fly wheel (fidanza and exeddy) will i be able to use it on the type r engine? if not then i will just go with stock until i can afford to have the new type r engine dropped in.

5th gear

My 91 teg grinds going into 3rd and 5th but not all the time. Sometimes its smooth and other times it grinds like a mo fo. Where do I start to fix that prob? Also when traveling down the highway it falls out of 5th gear and I have to push it back in. How can I fix these two probs? Its really pissing me off.

hey guys i have also had some shifting problems myself, fixed everything by dropping the fluid and filling it with some Lucas stop slip and hard shifting and some castrol 10-w40 and replaced the bushing and it shifts like a dream now, gears used to grind like a MOFO also.

Wild Style, you should get an OEM clutch. There’s really no point in a super grabby clutch unless you’re making a good bit more power than the engine did originally (in my opinion anyway). Don’t bother replacing your flywheel unless it’s really bad, find a good machine shop and have them resurface it. Save your money for that new engine…

I put some Lucas in my teg too and it loves it along with some syncromesh tranny fluid, some new bushings and a new shifter. I know this isnt the forum for this but after changing the pass side axle I have a nasty shake in the front end, anyone know how to fix this?
