Anyone using a Toda replica header?

Anyone using a Toda replica header? I just got mine today.
What test pipe did you use or did you get a custom one made?

Why not use an actual catalytic converter?

Virtually any cat/test pipe will need to be tailored to fit your setup as most people don’t run the same header/exhaust system.

I have a stock ITR cat and SMSP high flow that I’ve used with my Toda replica. The SMSP I made custom, the ITR I just had to chop up and add some length to.

If you want a header bracket then you’ll need an ITR header bracket, I forget the exact year, there are two versions, the one you want is the newer one.

where can you buy a Toda replica? All I find in my google searches are comparisons, or classified forum posts that are several years outdated.

ebay has toda “style”

I actually bought this exact one from this seller. Got it for $290 shipped. The clearance is amazing compared to my tri-y.

Michigan doesn’t do emissions so I am just gonna go cat less.
I was thinking of getting a resonator and using it as a test pipe. My current set up is a tri-y → 2.5 vibrant ultra quiet–> 2.5 straight pipe → vibrant axle back. The ultra quiet is huge so it scraps with the tri-y hanging so low. Car sounds great but the clearance is terrible.

I found a greddy sp2 cat back for $150 so I am putting it on with the toda replica. I am gonna get a bottle style resonator and make it into a test pipe.

Here are some pics

My ride height

I am loving the clearance. Its a b16 block with a gsr head. So am very happy with the clearance compared to the tri-y.

R.I.P tri-y

looks like the oil pan is more susceptible to being banged harder…as crazy as it sounds…i think i’d rather my header take the hit lol

lol it should be ok. I am not that low.

lol header looks good though, either way, cant front. what you doing w/ the other one?

Dont know yet. Prolly gonna sell it for like 40-50 bux or just give it away.

If the header hangs lower its not going to protect your oil pan, so you should always try to find the header with the best clearance you can.

I’m surprised my 4-1 that I’m currently running isn’t in worse shape than it is. Mine isn’t quite as gnarly looking as your old one, and I’m sitting at least an inch or two lower than yours. It’s got some dents, but not that rough.

Oh well, next year I plan on redoing my header/exhaust setup.

Currently, my B18C has a 4-1 header with 2.5" collector, that goes into a 2.5 inch Vibrant High flow cat (not the same as yours), then there is the horrible 2" diameter “extension piece” that the SP2 uses for the 92-93 version of the system, then, into my Greddy SP2.

Going to go with the following:

PLM Toda replica (assuming it has a 2.5" collector, correct?)
use a Vibrant header flange, and run some 2.5" pipe that’ll connect it to the cat
2.5" Vibrant cat (I’ve only had it for a little over 2 years, it’s still fine. So, it’s getting reused)
then, it’ll take a slight pipe diameter step down into the Tanabe Hyper Medallion (The system that is similarly styled like the GReddy SP2, with horizontal muffler)

no more horrible bottle neck. I don’t mind the tiny step down from 2 1/2" to the 2 3/8" inch. Not THAT big of a deal to me. It’s bound to be a damn sight better than that horrible 2" choke point that’s there now.

i didnt say protect i said more susceptible…my stock header is damaged, my oil pan has a hit as well…, if the header didnt sit lower than the oil pan, i’m sure it would have ended up more damaged/cracked than it is now. again i’m just saying, personal experience and eyes looking at the situation, my lower stock header probably saved me more than i know.

at the end of the day, if the hit is bad enough, the oil pan is history, no way to shade that fact

Yea the collector is 2.5in. I am stepping down from 2.5 to run the SP2. I will keep the vibrant setup and get a 22inch vibrant bottle resonator on it. I havent seen this axle back anywhere ever so I might as well keep it and use it for the track. Do you have a GSR (b18c1) block? Cause the b18 blocks have a higher deck height than my b16 block, Thats prolly why yours isnt as bad as mine. I actually raised the front of the car .5in after 2 weeks of scrapping lol.

That’s pretty much the best setup you can go for and still run a cat, its also exactly how I set mine up. When you fab up the custom cat its better for power if you install the cat further back. So currently you have the cat then extension, when you switch o the new setup you should weld the cat directly to the 3 bolt exhaust flange then use a piece of 2.5" piping between the cat and the header flange to make up the rest of the length.

How did the install go? Did you still have to remove the crossmember to install? A lot of people I talked to recommend PLM as a great header. They say their products last forever and clearance/fitment is pretty standardized.

I just took out the 4 bolts that hold the crossmember up and pushed it down a little bit so then the top of the header can slide up to the engine head. Then tighten back the 4 bolts. took me abot 20 mins to install it. I have the plm tri-y and the plm toda replica as shown in the pics. The tri-y took a 2 years of abuse and I got it new for $175 on sale. I have no complaints with the products they make. For replicas they are pretty good.
