Wouldn’t a big enough scrape snap the clamps right off of the header and with it your lil header shield? $50 down the drain? I don’t know… doesn’t look to be too sturdy with those clamps… but if you were to weld that shit on there, then maybe it will help… maybe.
good thinkin…i wish i can confirm dat with somebody who owns one…
I’ve got one. Its designed to keep the clamps away from the scrape surface. That’s why the tabs are bent. Keep in mind that these are only for use with JDM ITR headers/it’s replicas/and smaller headers (meghan, jg, dc, obx). HyTech/SMSP/ETC are way too big (I have a hytech replica, and I bought this to be a template for a larger one to fit the bigger headers. I had it on for a while, but it was much too small to be of any real use). It’s a hell of an investment, if you clamp it down properly.
So it worked for you? Did a scrape a lot? Any damages to the header after the shield had been installed? Thanks for posting your first hand experience
why not just get a piece of aluminum and a pair or metal sheeres and make your own for a 1/4 of the price:idea:
not worth 50 bucks,
aluminum will not withstand a direct hit at 50+ mph. i’ve tried it before. neither will the metal sheets you can buy at a hardware store. under 50mph it depends on what you hit. you hit a pothole at the right angle it’ll punch right through the aluminum. i’ve ruined a header doing that.
yea it scrapes a lot b/c i sit quite low and the header hangs pretty low as well. it’s worth 50 bucks imho b/c it’s a very thick, but fairly light piece of metal, machine bent and precision cut. not everyone has access to the machines needed to do that kind of work.
I am picking up the metal to make a larger one this week. i have access to most of the machines needed to make the necessary cuts and bends. so we’ll see how it turns out. as i said this shield is far too small for my header. there is a tiny bit of denting at the end but nothing major. i’ll hammer it out before i put in the new shield. i’m using a slightly thinner piece, but i will post some pics when it’s finished. there is so much crap being developed by us right now it’s rediculous.
50mph?? i was just thinking of scrapping against speedbumps.
If you forget to dodge or can’t dodge a pot hole.
Looks like a piece of plate and some hose clamps. Ilve got plate lying around and hose clamps are cheap. Might have to make my own.
why would you want to build it for only one scenario?
