Should I torque the rod bolts down to 40 ft/lbs like ARP says to, to check the clearance when using plastiguage? Or should I check clearances by just torqueing them down to 23 ft/lbs like it says in the helms when checking clearances?

Use the ARP specs…Did you get the bearing surface of the rod reconditioned after the bolts were installed? They tend to be a little bit larger and warp the surface…
