bump does anyone know?
have the journals resized for the bolts by a shop…otherwise the bolts are too girthy and won’t fit in the vag.
nothing special needs to be done to the bolts/rods to install them. Assuming you bought the correct bolts, they will fit without modification because they were made for your application. You need to tighten the rod bolts according to stretch, not torque, but thats the only “special” requirement.
what???
one of you sayd something and the other said something completely different.
the rods need to be machined after installing the rod bolts. when the bolts are pressed in the area towards the opening in the rod expands a little bit. not much but enough to cause problems. the machine shop will take the rods and basically bore the opening in the rod out in just those areas so that you wont spin bearings or anything of that nature.
and just to answer the guy above-you cannot by anymeans just push them in just because they are made for it and then expect them to be ok. A machine shop will actually have to press them in to the rods.
ok, to clarify, my response was directed to the “the bolts are too girthy and won’t fit” comment. What I meant to say was no machining has to be done to the bolts or the holes in the rod in which the bolt will go. They are made to fit there. But yes, as xtremes said, the big end of the rod will distort a little, so a shop needs to resize them.
