I just bought a b16 tranny and ordered a 93 integra F1 stage 3 clutch . I read somewhere online and said that it won’t fit unless i get a 90-91 clutch…some one help please…need help asap so i can return it and reorder it…
90-91 have a different input shaft splines than 92+
EDIT: What code is on the transmission. If it is Y1, J1, A1, S1 then you need the 90-91. If it is YS1 what you ordered will work.
EDIT AGAIN::wrong:
Yes i believe it is the s1 b16 transmission…I already talked to customer service about it and i have to send back $75.00 deposit fee then they will send my back 40 bucks…!..so much hassle man…i swear…basically paying 300 bucks for the clutch…and i bought it off ebay for 280 bucks with free shipping…they said to just return the clutch disc and tool alignment so thats what i’m going to do…thanks bro…
Next time, just ask me before buying a part. I’ll only charge you $20 per recommendation and you won’t have to deal with this kind of stuff again. ha ha.
the s1 b16 tranny is 90-91 so you were told correct, you have to return it an get a 91 clutch. the 91 tranny has less splines on the input shaft than the 92+ trannies, and the clutch friction area is 3mm wider on the 92+ so it has more friction/contact area on the flywheel.
a quick search online for your s1 tranny spec could of saved you the trouble and the $20 refference fee from nice people
Instead of paying a restocking fee… why not just sell the YS1 clutch, and order a new Y1 clutch? Seems logical.
Actually, that’s incorrect. The number of splines is the same on 90-91 and 92-93 input shafts. It is the physical diameter of the shaft itself that is different (92-93 is a larger diameter).

Can you provide confirmation on this? I have never heard of this difference and am very skeptical.
^
Agreed… I didnt even read that comment, but I believe it to be incorrect.
I just take issue with them trying to kill my new business idea before it even takes off. What is up with that?! :squint:
I researched similar stuff on Honda-Tech, etc. and Colin is right. Its the shaft diameter that is different. Has the same number of teeth on the splines.
Well the thing is my third gear has been grinding lately so im swapping out the whole tranny. The YS1 clutch is still good but my tranny sucks ass. That’s the reason why i’m buying the clutch for the 91’s.
ok I have a spare clutch for my 91 tranny and Ill post pics of the specs so if someone has a 92+ clutch and can post pics of it also…
heres a couple pics i took of my clutch so you guys can compare with what you have.
There’s no reason to. THEY ARE DIFFERENT, guys.
89-91 trannies (both USDM and JDM) have a smaller input shaft. In '92 JDM civics went to hydraulic transmissions, so any cable JDM B16 trans will require a clutch disk for the USDM 89-91 cable B-Series.
The 92-01 B-Series clutches are all interchangeable.
100% Fact.

good point. I think i was actually told that the type r clutch was 3mm wider wich is what I wanted but couldnt since i have the 91 tranny… I think thats where I got off track…
Yeah… the clutch disks differ… as you said, the R is more aggressive than the LS, the GSR may be a different animal all together as well…
But physically, all '92-01 B-Series will interchange. The smaller input shaft is where you run into problems.
next time dont waste ur time on that f1 stage 3 clutch… those suck. use something like exedy… clutchmasters… act… these are quality clutches.
XTD make a great ‘eBay’ clutch… if broken in properly, it will hold out and last long and be an overall great clutch.
I’ve only seen one F1 clutch in person, and the person didn’t break it in properly, it has since started slipping with only 500miles on it… hard to say whether its due to the clutch itself or because it was broken in improperly.
i have installed multiple
Alright so I installed the tranny and everything is running good. I won’t be abusing the clutch anytime soon. I just hate the fact that my rpm goes so high at just 60 mph!!..also btw (noobie question ) but how do you know if you’re clutch is slipping?..can you notice it slipping even though you’re not abusing the hell out of it?
If you give it throttle and the rpm goes up, but your speed doesn’t… its probably slipping. Clutch slip is pretty unmistakeable.
500 miles of regular non-abusive driving is the standard break-in period.
