ATTN: all that are equipped with a B16A

i’m gettin ready to do a swap. i’m swapping the engine and tranny and i’m also converting my auto to 5-speed. i’m leaning towards the b16a because i’ve only got about $3000 to spend on all of this. a friend and i are doing the swap ourselves, but i think i’m gonna pay a mechanic-friend $400 to convert the teg to manual. i know of a few parts tegs in the area, so parts won’t be a problem.

i’m just wondering if you guys are truly happy with your b16a? also, if this applies, what did you do to bump up your torque? most importantly, which b16a did you get(sir1 or the newer si)??

any feedback would be greatly appreciated. thanks.

yup its alot faster, and like all fast cars the gas milage sux…

personally

I have a JDM B16a and would have liked the better increase in hp/especially tq that an LS/vtec conversion offers. But b16a might be cheaper.

Switched from a B17A (shattered rod, blown motor) to a 2nd generation B16A. I’m very happy with it:

150 whp, 105 wtq

i’m having alittle trouble getting approved for a $3000 loan. they said i can get $2000 no problem. how much did you guys spend on your engine/tranny complete swaps? i will also need to have enough left over for parts/labor for a auto to manual conversion(labor will be about $400). do you think i’ll have enough to do this all with $2000? where did you guys get your swaps from?

the tranny ecu and motor should cost u like 1400

I bought mine as a long block and kept the existing ECU and tranny because mine’s a GSR.

Engine was $1200 shipped, and by the time everything was said and done it probably cost around $2000 total. By the way, this was a second generation B16A, not first.

Don’t put yourself into debt just to make your car faster. It’s one of the worst descisions you can make IMO- if you dont have the green, then just dont do it and save up.

my LS engine is shot and i have no transportation besides catching rides here and there. so i figure, if i have to spend the money, i might as well do the swap i’ve been wanting to do. it sucks, but i have no choice but to go in debt.
