This question is directed toward owners who have the combo of Koni yellows and Neuspeed race springs. I just got my Konis in today
and now I’m just waiting for the money to get my Neuspeed Race Springs. My dilemma is this; I want better handling, a decent lowered stance and still have ground clearance. I don’t want that ultra low scrape look, but something tasteful and functional. Upon opening the Koni packages
I read that the Konis actually lower your car as well!? This I was not expecting. Any way around this? I don’t want to scrape…errr…but I want my Koni Improved decal to mean something too!!
If you take a look at the shock bodies you will notice the O-rings on the outside of them and you will see that by raising them up a notch or lowering them a notch you can raise or lower your car. Keep in mind you can only do this when installing the shocks, there isn’t a way to do it with them on your car.
I am on h&r sports (1.8" f/r) and the yellows are at the lowest setting up front and the middle setting in the rear. I can only estimate that gives me about a 2"f and 1.8"r drop. If I were to get the neuspeed races(and I hope to do so by summer) I would move the konis up one notch in the front and the rear and hope to keep the 2"f and 1.8"r drop because I don’t want my car any lower than it is now, I am only interested in the stiffer spring rates of the neuspeed races. I already worry enough about scraping stuff and occasionally I do.
I’m running the NS race with Koni yellows setup. The front is on the middle perch and the rear is on the highest perch. At this setting I have perfectly even wheel gap at all four corners. That is about 2finger gap on stock wheels/tires.
The middle perches on the shock body gives you 0 ride height alteration.
Just want to say, this combo is really really sweet, the Koni’s are awesome and the Race springs are stiff and gives the car a nice stance.
i used to have this setup as well. it was a good setup, but i had to change up for a number of reasons. i was running the koni’s at highest perch in the back, and lowest in the front. but, you will be riding on your bumpstops and damper travel will be nonexistent. i suggest trying the fronts on the highest perch and then see how you like it. you can always lower it from there if you like, as the front suspension is a piece of cake to work on. good luck.
I have this same setup…the rear are on the highest setting(1finger gap) and the front is on the highest setting( 2 finger gap) l…I have 15inch rims and was tired of scraping on stuff so thats why I raised it…it rides like a dream just how I wanted it just remember to drive around with the Koni set on the softest setting for a week or so to break em in. I’ll take pics tomorrow when theres light if u want.
Big help, Big thanks.
Can’t tell you how much I appreciate feedback, and your assurance at my wise choices have relieved me of all doubts concerning them. Thank you again. Asian Buddha, I’d love some pics If you could spare the time. BTW, I have 16in wheels, this should help a bit yes?
Here ya go
Took this pic today after I dropped my bro off at work, sorry bout the quality, its raining like a beatch here in Seattle…

TougeDB1-To answer ur question, it really depends on the profile tire u have on ur rims. For instance, I have 195/55-15 on right now but I plan to get bigger profile tires to raise my teg off the ground about an inch and reduce wheel well gap at the same time by getting 205/50-15. HTH
Uh. Schweet.
I love black Tegs. Thanks for the pic and all the info everybody. My tires are 205/45s so, I should be okay right?
1 more question please
Camber, I’d like it corrected so that I don’t kill my tires. Will I even need to? what kinda kit and if Ingalls, which one? there are 2 of them.
For the Neuspeed Race drop, get Ingalls Extreme Camber Kit, part #3572…u can get it for a good price at www.groupbuycenter.com…after u get it installed, get an alignment immediately to correct camber and toe settings and u should be good to go!
Do you get your Koni’s through Neuspeed, or did you get them just from Koni? Because Neuspeed modifies the konis and shortens the shaft by 20mm.
Many people I talk to have bump stop issues, and are not as low as I…I am one perch BELOW the LOWEST perch (got them machined into the shock body) and I have no bottoming out issues whatsoever. I have Neuspeed Race over Koni yellows as well.
Ride quality is great also.
Just remember it is really important to break it in, and NEVER turn it to the end of full stiffness or full softness. Relieve 1/4 turn from the end. ie, Full stiff means 1/4 turn shy of as far as it can go towards stiff, and full soft means 1/4 turn shy of as far as it can go towards soft. Break em in on full soft according to these definitions, and then you can play with them. If you adjust them beyond 1/4 turn from the end, you will damage the shock.
Hey if you wanna see pics of my car with the Neuspeed Race + Koni Yellows setup, check out this thread.
Nice Car JoeyGil
Hey man, very clean and very nice!
Did you need a camber kit? Also, what perches of the Konis are you riding on?
Also:: What of this “modified” Konis? I got these konis directly from Koni…so did I F*uck up or something?!?
Yeah I have the Ingalls camber kit up front, and the washer trick on the rear.
Koni perches are middle for front, and highest for rear.
I’m using the regular Koni.
Change of plan.
Well guys, I dunno if this is a good thing or a bad thing. I might have to sell my Konis since I can’t get the money for the springs anytime soon. So I plan on selling these Konis and using that money for Christmas shopping. What do you think? Also, I heard Tein came out with coils for our cars…so I guess that leaves a possibility of upgrading to that. How much should I sell these Konis for? They’re brand new and still in the factory boxes with all the included Items.

:werd:
sell them for exactly what you paid for them… no need to loose money in your situation.
Thanks Speeddaddy.
But honestly, would anyone buy these shocks for 530+shipping?
Another thing, I mentioned that one day Tein SS coilovers might be an option for me, Well I just got the specs on them. Spring rate is 504 front and 280 rear. They are 0-3.5" adjustable and 16 ways shock adjustable. I really don’t like the spring rates much. It seems that these would induce understeer rather than provide a better neutral feeling. Wouldn’t koni shocks and neuspeed race springs be a better off setup compared to this?
