Audio Installation Q

Now I’ve run wires, and put boxes in, wired up my head unit, and all that good stuff but I have a question about custom installations and false floors. Mainly, how do you attach them so they don’t slide around? How do you anchor them to your car? This summer, I’m going to make a custom enclosure in my hatch, and was just curious as to how I might be able to mount the amps some place like the spare tire well, and the false floor on top of it with the subs firing backwards. Maybe I’m just looking at it poorly, but it seems confusing to me. Anybody offer any help? Any pics of installation of hatch setups? I’d like to keep my spare tire… but we’ll see what happens this summer

Thanks guys.

lil’ help?

If you take some 2x6 or 2x4 cuts of about 6" and then use either expandable foam (i.e. Great Stuff) or a polyurethane-based adhesive such as Liquid Nails or PL Premium (Lepage), you will be headed in the right direction. When I did my floor, I didn’t want any holed drilled so a glued these strips of wood and secured them with expandable foam and then I screwed the floor into that by using 2x2 pine and masonite.

It’s easy… If you need to remove it, rip everything out till you get down to your original glued in foundation and then use a heat gun to pull out the boards. Once the boards are out, you will need Methyl Hydrate (aka gas line antifreeze, methyl alcohol, fondue fuel… etc) to reduce the polyurethane in the foam or adhesive.

Contact me if need be. I raised my floor about 4" and flushed in 2 12s in an enclosure with 3 amps and a disc changer. I kept the OEM trunk mat and it rolls over to hide everything perfectly…

Oh yeah… as a suggestion… I didn’t want to damage the subs so I framed out a trim panel between the base and the top piece of masonite with some stainless steel mesh. The subs are very well protected – I can stand on the meshing with no problems – it’s been rock solid for years now. You can get all this stuff from Home Dept in the paint and flooring dept (can also use it for grilles, etc. if you want to get riced out a bit).

Take care!

Andrew.
