i have a ?.. why the hell would u want an 18 inch sub? it will sound like ass. 12 should be the biggest imo for our cars… in case u forgot with or without dynomat they rattle enough as it is. lol. not critisizing j/c as to what makes u need 18 inches of subwoofer.
Not unless your entertaining the “Boat Launch” crowd. Wonder how long his grounds will last. I see another three posts unless the lobotoraters intervene.:umno:
:umno: Why would you want something that big!? for a sealed box that thing needs 6 cubic feet! you wouldn’t have a backseat! and after dealing out the couple grand or more for the sub and amp, will it be worth it to have your hatch rattle to pieces!? just go a 12 and save yourself some money, and keep the backseat. the 18 will hit the lows but the highs will sound like complete ass
its for db drags… not normal listening!
Hey, what equipment are you looking at running altogether? I would personally stay away from kicker, but you would could fit an 18" with some fabrication. You need to be more specific about what your goals are, and how you plan to get there.
For the rest of you guys, especially RuudDog, dont bother replying if you are going to post misleading information. Loudspeaker cone size does not effect the response of a well designed setup, a 6ft^3 sealed enclosure makes no sense for what hes talking about, and I’m sure that if he is building for spl he knows how to install sound deadening and proper wiring.
I’m not getting an 18" driver, but when I get around to installing an alarm and deadening in the db1 it will be receiving dd3515e or dd3512e. That sub can easily hand 3k rms daily. It seems like none of the stereo gurus get on g2ic anymore. Wheres kephart…

Yes it will fit, and RuudDog is correct, min. sealed box is 6 cuft, but it could be done without giving up the rear seat.
Being as you want this for SPL drags, your looking a amplification in excess of 1000W RMS, [sub is, RMS/PEAK 1000W/5000W] that will require upgrading your alt. and batt., in fact multiple batt. and caps will be required to supply the amp(s) with the current required for the “burps” of output needed in SPL contests, not to mention the heavy gauge cable needed to deliver that current.
The other issue will be the weight of all the above, the box alone will weight enough that you will probably have to replace the rear springs on the car.
As mentioned, it can be done, if done properly it will definitely be loud, however in my experience, [I have built a few SPL competition cars] multiple speakers that add up to the same cone area will produce higher SPL levels, even with less power, [watts].:whisper: 94

Why would he run a sealed enclosure for spl? I haven’t looked at the t/s parameters for a solo x, but I wouldn’t recommend a sealed enclosure unless the builder lacks the experience or equiptment to do otherwise. I would recommend looking at the new digital designs lineup. They recently redesigned the baskets for better cooling making them even more attractive. A dd9515 would sit nicely in a da with a f/g crx style box. With enough power, he could easily hit mid 150s if not more. At full excursion, that sub displaces around 47ft^3 (3.15" of excursion 15" of surface area).
Also for the space he has, I would recommend against running multiple subs. With competition level equiptment, the weight adds up too quick. My setup with one 10" weighed weighed over 200lbs. The driver and enclosure acounting for over half of that.
I guess you didn’t read the OPs first post…

I answered his question, “yes it will fit”.
Your the one that said…

Cone area does have an effect on output, and 6 cuft is the recommended min. sealed enclosure volume for the S18X.
Also why would you assume that someone asking if a particular sub will work and…
or any sort of help pleasee let me know
would even know what sound dampening is?:tapfing:
So take your own advice…

Excuse me? Im not sure what your were trying to say in your last post, but cone area does not alter the response of a decent loud speaker. Let me repeat myself “response” not spl. Now why would you recommend a sealed box for db drags? I wouldn’t but suit yourself.
now as far as this goes
lso why would you assume that someone asking if a particular sub will work and…

Honestly, common sense dictates. Even an entry level 18" kicker is going to rattle the shit out of an untouched 17 japanese car, and he said he was building for db-drags. Maybe your right and he doesn’t, g2ic never seizes to amaze me. I had to spend almost $1000 in sound deadening supplies before I was happy with my stereo. Most people aren’t willing to do it themselves anyways.
Where did I say he should use a sealed box?
I was responding to you saying…
a 6ft^3 sealed enclosure makes no sense for what hes talking about, He was asking if an 18" Kicker will fit, he was told it will, but will require a 6 cuft box, he was also told “the 18 will hit the lows but the highs will sound like complete ass” you called all that misleading info, and then told us all to go away, "For the rest of you guys, especially RuudDog, dont bother replying if you are going to post misleading information.
From what I see we answered the OPs question, told him what would be needed if he used it and recommended against using that sub for an SPL system and gave him reasons why not to, how the hell is any of that misleading?:tapfing:94
