Auto Lock

how reliable are these things??? i bought my second integra a year ago, and it came with The Club and The Auto Lock… and i’ve just started to use the Auto Lock… let me know

that’s a tough question that will take some research… cuz really we might never know. all these variables come into play and will affect are… nevermind my research brain is coming on, and it’s shutting off right now. shit. it wouldn’t hurt to use it.

It’s as reliable as a condom. Works well if you use it. Not 100% though, but than again, nothing ever is.

if someone wants your car bad enough, there gonna get it. i say just invest in a good alarm

sorry but i just have to quote my post from h-t:

quote:

the club is completely worthless.

sorry but im sick of hearing that ignorant crap. not only do those comments include the club, but alarms and whatever means of securing your car short of a lojack, are also ‘worthless’.

everyone and their mom knows that the club can be easily snapped like a twig. everyone and their uncle knows that steering wheels are made to be bent on impact and can be cut even easier than a club. the point is, they take TIME. TIME=level of DIFFICULTY. of course any security measure can be bypassed, yes even the lojack, given the proper amount of TIME.

my favorites:

“if a thief really wants your car, they’ll get it eventually.” -duh? i guess that means you should just leave the keys in, cuz whats the point right?

“they can tow your car” -well if they really want my car that bad, hell, here are the keys, enjoy.

lojack is of course leaps beyond the others, but it isnt cheap. hell it costs 1/3rd the value of my car. now if i had a new or expensive car of course i can afford it, but then i’d have full coverage anyways right? theres surely an intermediary, but ill leave that to those who are there to decide.

anyways, to answer your question they are one of the better things to physically secure your car. they can be broken, but not many people know of the device which can be purchased for around 100$. the club on the other hand, can be very easily compromised with household tools.

the autolock plus an alarm (with a good install- crucial) is a great combo short of a pricey lojack system. now a club, an autlock, and an alarm is just a ‘why should i even bother with this car’ to a thief, unless you happen to have some valuable (and/or showy) upgrades which would warrant a good towing.

Put the autolock on your brake, and the club between your shifter and E-brake. This works especially well if you have an automatic.

 I never thought of that.

it’d work good on a 5 speed also, just put it in 5th. I dont think theres any chance of them rolling your car around starting in 5th gear

But if they really want your shit, they could drop the shifter and yadda yadda(cant u tell i spent a long time doing my SS install?) lol

Bump this valuable thread that is still relevant as our brothers & sisters down in Cali (San Diego is full of gtaIII wannabeez  ) keep losing their cars to theft.

Talking to a chipper young officer at the Dupont, WA police station today and he recommended Lojack because it’s reliable blah blah, and then he said something about the Russian mob at the port of seattle or some sh!t. :wtf:

Yeah, Lojack sounds great, but I don’t have that kind of cash laying around. This thread presents a very reasonable alternative.

There is this starter-kill called power lock and it works great, can’t wire around, remove or hotwire. But if you have a manual trans, your outta luck.

i’ve seen people destroy a club with a large c-clamp in seconds.Be carefull!

Oops! Not so fast, i tell myself… :read:

"…No matter how I installed it, the AutoLock was useless. I was able to shift the device up or down the brake pedal ‘arm’ in such a way that I could then turn the AutoLock sideways, so that it lay lengthwise against the car floor. Each time, this took me a maximum of 30 seconds, and each time I could have then easily stolen the car. "

…So maybe that thing works as a car theft deterrent , but definitely not a car theft prevention.

simply install a fuel cutoff switch and hide it somewhere…they can’t steal your car if they can’t start it…

^^^

Or they tow it, or they start your car and drive it down the street on the existing fuel pressure…

Or they know that a ton of people do this trick and are prepared to ground it…

What it is, is a matter of -stacking- security measures. Thus it would take longer to steal your car. And hopefully in that time, the cops see them, or you see them, or something.

Off topic: My car for some reason was glued into 5th, and I drove it around like 1/2 a day like that, I just made sure I was always rolling around, and not coming to a stop, it sucked, If i did stop I would have to floor it and feather the clutch. :giggle:

sleep in your car…or leave a pitbull in that shit

No matter what a person does to their car in terms of anti-theft products and systems, if a person wants your car bad enough, they will find a way to get it. As for autolock, i think they have only about 6-10 different kinds of keys so it could be possible for a car thief to have a full set, and remove your autolock within seconds.
