I’m planning an auto to manual swap (YS1) in my 92 LS DA daily driver. I plan to use the Innovative auto to manual conversion transmission mount and stock engine mounts. I’ve got a couple of questions.
Urethane stiffness of the Innovative bushing: I want to minimize any vibration in the cabin, so I was leaning toward the lowest (60a) urethane stiffness. However, I’ve been doing a little searching, and have found a few reports of 60a bushings becoming deformed in a short amount of time. Is this a common issue with the Innovative 60a bushings? If so, I might want to go with the next higher stiffness (75a). Would the stiffer mount lead to noticeable vibration in the cabin (think A/C on, idling at a stop light)?
I was comparing the auto and manual mount part numbers - I noticed the front and rear engine mounts are different between the auto and the manual. This surprised me a little, since I am under the impression that folks who do the auto to manual swap in a DA continue to use their auto front and rear mounts. Am I mistaken about that? How are the front and rear engine mounts different between the auto and the manual DA?
if you do a search you will find the answer to your second question. I have done this swap, but it has been a while. I remember having to do something with the rear mount. You either had to switch out the bracket, the motor mount or both. Like I said do a search, I know there is a long thread about this.
Thanks, CerealKiller90. I have searched, but I’m not finding the answer to the second question. I did find someone asking the exact same question in the long auto-to-manual swap thread, but there wasn’t an answer.
I did find this statement on an old post at team-integra.net about the g2 auto-to-manual swap:
**-Rear engine mount bracket
There is an engine mount in the back underneath the intake manifold and the bracket is different.
That sounds consistent with your recollection…
Googling the question seems inconclusive - when the question arises, I’ve seen some posts on other boards say the auto rear mount is different than the manual, and some say they are the same (usually in the same thread).
I guess I will plan on getting the mount assemblies (rubber+brackets) - I’ll at least have the opportunity to compare them when the time comes. I’m still a bit curious, though, because in the auto-to-manual swap part lists I’ve seen, MT-specific front and rear mounts are not (usually) listed.
I’ve done two auto to manual swaps. You can use all your mounts except for the tranny mount… If you are worried about vibration then go with 1 inch longer bolts and spacers and use a stock manual tranny mount.Plus you will save about $100 since the bolts and spacers will cost you about $15. I switched to a hydro tranny and used the innovative auto to hydro mount. Hopefully I can tolerate the vibes from the new tranny mount. Also I have the longer bolts and mounts now sitting in my garage.
