Auto Transmission: Problem(s) [possible slip?]

The car: 1991 Integra LS, Auto

When the car is cold, it shifts perfectly no slipping, and has plenty of power on take-off.

However, when the car warms up it acts weird. When you accelerate from a dead stop, with a constant %25 throttle, it seriously lacks power. So much so, it feels like its starting off in 2nd gear. Also, when you are cruising at highway speeds (after its warm) it seems like its running in S4. Like the gearing is 60mph at 3000rpms.

Another problem, maybe related, is when the car is on and in park and you depress the brake pedal, an audiable click is heard from the shift selector. If you leave it in park, and pump the brake rapidly the, what sounds like a solinoid click, goes just as fast as you pump it.

So I’m wondering two things here:

  1. is the transmission slipping in gear

or

  1. is the shift selector preventing it from going into 1st or Overdrive (assuming it has an Overdrive)

wish there was more info to search on auto tranny problems…

PS - don’t tell me to do a manual swap, this is just a daily i’ve bought for my G/F to drive, and she isn’t interested in driving a 5spd to work everyday.

edit
Things i’ve changed/replaced so far:
-Spark Plugs
-Cleaned EGR with carb cleaner and replaced gasket
-Changed Throttle body/TPS and gasket
-Changed Air filter
-Changed fuel pump
-Changed fuel filter

Update

Just went out this morning, after the car had been sitting overnight, and took it for a test run. The car is driving like normal, perfect acceleration and whatnot while its cold. Massive loss in power and driveability when it warms up.

The clicking from the brake pedal is SHIT-LOCk engaging and disangaging. Basically an electronic lock that prevents you from switching into and out of Reverse unless you are stopped (brake pedal depressed).

any reccomendations on a fix? should i clean it, or should i just replace it. Is it different from a neutral saftey switch?

Although the test is expensive, like $5 a quart @ 4 quarts, you could try changing the trans fluid with Honda brand. And no, there isn’t a trans filter, unless someone rigged one in the cooler line, which could be plugged. Most likely a tired trans, ie internal pump failing. Then again the throttle body could have a dead spot, do a search under FAQ, its there.:read:

Ok, heres an update:

Problem seems to be completly fixed!!

Turns out the distributor cap gasket had crystalized and allowed moisture into the cap, causing a buildup of corrosion on the ignition coil. Just enough to allow it to run, but misfire under load. So I cleaned it out with steel wool and replaced the gasket, cap and rotor.

Viola!

Perfect shifting, perfect power.

sigh $2.10 fix, 2 days of obsessing about it, trying to figure out the problem.

Damn DA’s.

I love em to death tho

It’s a miracle!!!:manual:

$2 fix’s are always a good thing, could be worse
