Just wondering if anyone out there has participated in an autocross with rear trailing arm bushings that need replacing. I’ll be changing my RTA bushings this summer but the parts won’t be arriving in time for the event this weekend. Should I go ahead and run anyway? Any advice to the contrary?
My suspension set-up includes Tokico Illuminas, Eibach Prokit, Suspension Techniques front and rear swaybars, Bridgestone Potenza RE950s on stock 14" steelies.
i know it was posted here… having worn bushings will cause ether understeer or oversteer…
how are your other bushings?.. id say its alright to go with the worn trailing arm bushings… now as for strut fork bushings… i dunno if id risk it with those
we rebuilt the whole front suspension so far… gonna do the back all at once… we gonna get new upper arms and the t/a bushings still before we can start pulling it apart
worn bushings will not make a car sqirrly and will not make it understeer or oversteer. Once into and turning the corner a worn bushing will perform the same as a poly bushing. It is the transfer from accelerating to braking to cornering where you will notice the difference. With new bushings the car will feel crisp…
Holly crap. This is the second thread I have read where you replied. Are you somking crack?
“Worn bushings will not make a car sqirrly” :wtf:
Have you ever seen some of the rear T/A bushings that look torn to pieces? Better yet, ever been in a car with some? If you don’t think that will make the rear loose, then you are on crack.
I sir, HAVE a car with 300,000 km on it and rotting, worn out, torn bushings… IT DOES NOT make the car squirrley or loose. If anything it makes the car understeer and plow. Once turning a radius a worn bushing should act very similar to a new one as it is not transferring energy different directions anymore, but it is holding at somewhat one position. a new bushing will make the car feel fresh, crisp and react sooner.
I don’t know if any of you mountainbike, but a worn bushing is like trying to pedal a bike with large amounts of travel up hill. Instead of turning your steering wheel in the car and having the car turn instantly, you will turn the wheel, the bushing will flex then the car will turn. it just feels sloppy, but the car does not drive erradically.
if your car is all over the place you have an issue with a mis aligned car. get your toe set and then drive it again… it will be much better i guarantee.
My RTA bushings look like somone blew them up, there total crap and I autox, came in 8th / 26 novices the other week, 3rd time out… Keep in mind there are vettes, porsches, STi’s, etc in the novice group…I did have my LCA bushings replaced though…(had to they rusting in place)
Like somone else said, make up for it with driving skills
You got it buddy!!! I race once a week with one club and once every 3 weeks with another club… Do your rotting bushings make the car squirrley? lol with a good alignment the car will just feel heavier and sloppier that is all.
The only thing I really notice is my back end feels weird… like loose, but only on high speed corners, such as mountain roads. O well guess it keeps me from going to fast One thing I did notice was I raced once without my rear sway (lost a bolt to it) and then raced again with it, HUGE difference, so I would say that would be one thing to look at getting one of those poly kits for, i’m looking into it…
new endlinks made a diff on my car and very cheap… also on our red car the frame mounts mashed out… u could feel the diffrence in the suspension… and i had to wait for the things to come in for that one…
the rta’s are the reason why the rear of the car rolls more than the front in heavy turns right? (when there dead)
