Automatic LS/vtec

I have a 93 auto and I have boltons, fpr, and a small tranny cooler. I have thought many times about forced induction but I know the trans will crap out even if done right just because of the added power. So does anyone think that an auto ls/vtec would be possible? Or would that cause just as much stress to the tranny, even if I just get some cams or high comp pistons? Has anyone on here done this? Also what mods would help in the auto powerband which only goes to ~6800? I just want my auto to be a little faster, nothing rediculous, and manual is not an option.

Also should I get a half sized radiator and get a very large tranny cooler or would this be a waste?

Hey man, all people are gonna tell you here is to just switch to a manual. Is there any particular reason why it’s not an option? I have an automatic myself but it’s just a daily driver for me.

my buddy has an ls/vtec setup on his automatic d-series motor in an EG, so it is possible.

I know I know for four years now I’ve been asking questions about my auto on this site and thats always the response I get. But every once it a while someone will slip in a nugget of useful information. Usually the other auto owners like yourself.

So then no one knows a good way to give the auto a safe little bump in power other than bolt ons and cams? Or at least know how much power can be made without significantly shortening the life of the tranny? Anyone with thoughts on the tranny cooler?

Where is your tranny cooler? Did you totally bypass the radiator one?

i know it sucks to keep hearing the same thing over and over but why mod a car with auto especially for ls/vtec, your tranny is gonna make u shift before you even feel the top end power and that would be a waste i think, but to answer your question, you could do it and the tranny would be okay but it wouldnt be much fun or very effective considering the time/money invested in that type of build

The tranny cooler is wedged in front of the radiator(its fairly small) and I didn’t bypass the radiator I installed it inline.

The reason that I want to mod my auto is that I have had it for a while and have lots of time and money invested in it, so sellng and buying a manual wouldn’t work. I like the car a lot but I want a little faster for now, but I realize it is hard to do safely in an auto.

well how bout having the shifting points raised a lil bit?

what?
he has lsvtec in his automatic EG w/D series or without? what the hell are you talkin about.

and yes the auto lsvtec is possible. especially if a guy who was featured in honda tuning had a jdm b18c w/auto swapped in his ek.

knowing that theres other people fixing up autos…makes me feel a lot better about me putting money on my auto.

yes you can do it…its been done before…and yes it may be a waste of time knowing that auto tranny will shift before vtech kicks in…but thats where you will need vtec controller…get a after market torque converter too while your at it…

or it may just be easier to buy a dohc vtec engine with auto tranny and ecu…it will save time and you won’t have to deal with the LS auto tranny shifting before vtec…

:gay:

vtec controllers = bad idea.

do yourself a favor and do a 5-speed swap.
that’s what i did and i have absolutely NO regrets.
you’ll get more power from a 5-spd conversion than from an ls/vtec

my buddy has an ls/vtec setup on his automatic d-series motor in an EG, so it is possible.

did you mean d-series tranny? the b-series auto tranny can handle enough power for an ls/v or gsr motor. i would buy a new torque converter tho.
easiest route for the vtec control is prolly running a vafc w/ 1 wire vtec hooked up off it, and stock ecu. another option would be obd1 conversion and using a 94-95 auto si-vtec ecu.
