I just swapped in a new radiator for my manual teg, I was wandering if having a automatic radiator would be bad. My dad (mechanic) says it’s fine. I’m just guessing but would coolant fluid leak from the 2 extra holes. Any info would be appreciated thanks.
You’re dad knows more than you do, listen to him. Those holes are for the ATF cooler.
coolant will leak if you don’t plug those holes.

As far as I know, SE-37K is right… the extra holes are for the ATF cooler… (I have an auto one in my manual car)
yes, but the radiator won’t know those lines aren’t there and will send coolant to where those atf holes are. there for, it would leak or you would have a major loss of coolant pressure.

man, those holes flow ATF not Radiator fluid… They lead to a cooler that’s built into the bottom of the radiator which is surrounded by water.
ATF doesn’t get mixed with Radiator Fluid so where is this leak and pressure loss coming from?
I have one in mine no caps and no leaks!!!
hahah this is why i ask the question to see if it would leak.

You got your answer!
Lets get the facts straight…
Those two lines are to a seprate cooler built into the radiator for the automatic fluid.
The auto radiator will fit, but its also bigger then the manual one. Problem?? HELL NO! extra cooling!
I made the “mistake” of buying a automatic one once… but it worked in my favor. The temp needle never sees the half way mark anymore… I took out my ac condensor too… Now when i drive on the freeway or down hills my temp needle will drop to 0.

Actually, that’s not really a good thing…
how is a cool motor not a good thing?
its known that a 3 core radiator can bring the temp needle to 1/4 in city driving.
It’s nice to have a cool engine, but the engine is designed and tuned to run at a certain temp… running an engine too cold for long periods of time can cause premature wear as the engine won’t be running at his full potential… I.E. running way too rich and ‘washing’ the rings, MPG decrease, etc… IMO, having the temp needle at 0 isn’t good… but to each his own… do what floats your boat!
There is no way it can get that cold… to wear it’ll do damage… The engine is still being run, and doesnt have time to cool down that quick.
SE-37K. i realized that after i turned the computer off. i was on some good medication for the cold i have. the codiene doesn’t help you think straight. i’m not a dumbass all the time.
I have had a Automatic Radiator in Manual Car for about a week now and i have had no problems… just plug the holes and you are good to go… :read:
I still want to know why a bigger radiator + extra cooling is a bad thing?
…damn i was wasted when i wrote my last post it makes little to no sense at all.
a larger radiator and extra cooling is not a bad thing, as long as your engine stays at its normal operating temp. if your temp gauge is not in the middle all the time (after it warms up) it is not a good thing.
just like answer says “running an engine too cold for long periods of time can cause premature wear as the engine won’t be running at his full potential… I.E . running way too rich and ‘washing’ the rings, MPG decrease, etc…”
if there is fluctuation in the temperature gauge, it is most likely a stuck open t.stat, if it gets cold that is. if it gets hot, it could be lots of things
it will rarely drop the needle to zero… but for the most part there is some major cooling going on… I’m also using redline water wetter and water… I’m not using any antifreeze.
wodstlk resumed everything that was in my mind!
