I’ve done searches on the boards, yet nobody has actually posted that it is tried and works. I really want to get rid of the automatic seatbelts and change them to the canadian manual ones.
I’ve never ripped out the molding around the doorframe, so I don’t know what it looks like underneath. I’ve seen diagrams and it looks like there’s a rail there that is removable. Is it safe though, to mount shoulder belts on the frame if you just drill your own hole? Is there already a hole there for the bolt?
Also how to make it so the car thinks the shoulder belt is connected? Can u use the lapbelt buckle? Also how do u get the shoulder to retract as well as the lap belt?
I would tell ya to go for it, but I have seen the molding off of a g2 teg and it is not pretty. lol. I don’t know if you can do that cause I think the ecu is programmed to make sure they are working… (If they don’t, the light remains on). Someone correct me if I am wrong, but I think it would be too much of a hassle. Sorry to relay the bad news man!
I have done the research work into this matter…buys a Helms for the diagrams. The removal of the auto seatbelts are straightfoward, and can be done by removing I believe 8 or so bolts, and taking the rail out. Then disconnect the auto seatbelt unit on the passenger side kick panel. The only thing that you need to do is get a tap b/c apparently Honda did not tap the mounting holes for the seatbelts…ie no threads. The same goes for the hole that goes in on under the center console for the new buckle. Once everything is tapped, assuming you have all the belts, the proper washers and bolts, the panel cover, the buckle, it’s a matter of bolt-up. Bolt everything back up, then bolt in the buckle under the console, and then extend the wires that was under your seat, hide them under the carpet, and connect the buckle up, and VOILA…
EDIT: Are friends to the north of us supplied me with the proper stuff…Thanks my Canadian friends…BTW don’t forget to ask for a new panel piece that our lap belts go through for the complete change
I haven’t done the swap on my own car yet…I only have the driver side stuff, and have been doing the “R&D” on a wrecked DA I have access to. You should try it on the wrecked GSR first before doing it in your own car. Once I get the tap size (been hella lazy) then do it once more, then VOILA on to my own DA. Member GOKOOLJAPAN has it done on his car
