automatic to manual swap (auto - 5spd conversion writeup)

Ahh thanks, Im getting a 5 speed one anyway I was just wondring what the difference was, cuz i put the auto one in the 5 speed tranny and it fit and had no play.

heres a link I found at Rywire too: Rywires auto to manual conversion instructs.

Is it possible to use a 5 speed engine harness for this conversion?

Here are pics of my swap with cable to hydro conversion. Also we cut off the passenger side bracket for the mount and I bought a 5 speed one from Acura for 30 bucks and we welded it on so no shimming for me. Also the half shafts are different. The auto one is flat on the back and the 5 speed one has a hump.

dang keep getting error saying exceeds forum quota.

how much did you guys pay for the full swap? the auto to standard

look to spend anywhere from 500-1500 dollars. Depends on where you get the parts, what tranny you get and what condition its in. And if you buy ne clutch and flywheel and all that stuff.

My 5 spd conv cost me350 dollars. But thats because I traded my header that I never used or was never gonna use for some parts, bought a new clutch and flywheel and got a junk yard tranny.

I called this place in my area, and said it would be 1100$ for the conversion, but i called a junk yard and theres a 91 LS tranny for $450. not sure if i should do that or buy a tranny from the junk yard…

$450 is a bit high for a 90-91. Does the $1100 include a tranny?

yeah it does…how ever if one of my dads friends who works for cottmans transmisson would do it, i could get my own which id liek to do so i could get a GSR YS1 tranny or a b16 tranny…I dont know where i could buy one of those trannys tho

Fyi, the 90-91 trannys have a smaller mainshaft and are not considered to be a strong as the later models. Also, the 94 and up models have a hydraulic clutch mechanism which you would have to adapt to your car. There are kits available to do that but they cost money. The 92-93 LS and GSR trannys are cable actuated so they are a simple swap. If your car is a 90 teg as your handle would imply, then the 90-91 model is best for you because you already have a clutch and the clutch plate is not interchangeable with the later model year. You are stuck with the 90-91 tranny unless you buy a new clutch plate too.

well actualy, with the swap i plan on getting a stage 2. As i swap from auto to standard i want a short shifter with a stage 2 so i dont have to do it later down the road…that leaving it open to any kind of tranny

please,need help

I did the conversion already, but the car wont start, starter works,i have spark from the ignition.Dont know why the car wont start.I wire the parking wires, the key lock and the reverse.Im I missing something?Help

iirc, that’s all you need for the conversion to start. you must be having a problem not related to it. i’d start troubleshooting from the beginning, as if you never did the conversion. good luck.

I had the same problem. Did you hook the batt to tranny ground back up? I know that the auto ground will not reach, or at least on mine it didnt.

ok,i checked the fuel system, and theres no fuel going thru.First,i checked the pump, and it wasnt pumping fuel.I connected it to a switch. Now it works, but the injectors r not working. Can anybody tell me if is a relay or a fuse.PLEASE HELP ME OUT

MFR maybe?

yeah,im gonna have to check everything.thanx DA90LS

tranny conversion

mmk ive a few months ago after putting a used auto tranny in my 92 4dr teg it acted a bit normal for about a week and then i noticed the when it shifted to 3rd from 2nd it slip like a lot…well anyways long story short…i let my car over heat and burnt all the trans fluid and killed my tranny soo after that my teg sit for a couple of months until i found a 2dr teg with a tranny but it was 5 spd.talked it over with my dad and then was like sure we can try it and now its done after a few weeks it finally works
i love being able to drive my teg once again my conversion costed about 700 to 1000.
fun but a tough project

So it’s confirmed that for an auto to manual swap the manual half-shaft is needed?

Can someone please tell me what the difference is between the auto and manual intermediate shafts?
