Ok guys so i’ve been having this problem for a pretty decent amount of time. Probably about 2-4 months ago my car started acting like it was “slipping” from second gear into 3rd. Now i began researching and seeing if it could be the transmission. I really just cant tell to be honest. The liquid is pink with no signs grinding. Now one thing to note on is that my car literally acts like it starts in second gear. The reason being why i think my car isn’t having a transmission problem (unless its one or both of the solenoids starting to go out) is because it still shifts into other gears fine and my car still has a decent amount of power. I saw on another post that this could be a distributor or ignition coil issue. Ive also replaced my distributor about 6-8 months ago. Other things to mention is that my car seems like its a little bit “better” when i first start it up. Also after my car changes into 3rd gear if i try to floor it the RPM’s go way up and the car then wont act like its normally flooring it. This also happens in 4th gear as well. Other than that there’s nothing much else, my car drives me from Point A to point B still and works fine other than this issue. My car’s mileage is also at 132,000. Also my car is a 91 LS
Do you notice any difference when you’re driving in the S-gears? Also I don’t understand this statement: “Also after my car changes into 3rd gear if i try to floor it the RPM’s go way up and the car then wont act like its normally flooring it.”
Do the RPMs go up yet you don’t accelerate?
I’m not so sure about the S-Gears as i dont usually use them but ill see if they act weird next time im in the car. And ya when i floor it the RPM’s go up and i dont accelerate, or if i do its very little.
so when using the s-gears while starting off driving the gas pedal i would say is more “sensitive” to where the RPM’s will go high and act like im stepping on it when i’m not. car still drives fine when keeping in the s-gears just the weird RPM thing
I wonder if your dashpot diaphragm is acting up or perhaps your throttle body is dirty and it’s sticking…
Just throwing out ideas…
Thanks for the ideas i appreciate them, ill have to do some research and check it out.
One thing i forgot to mention is that my car doesn’t automatically shift from second gear to third. I have to give it gas til its gets just over 20 mph and let my foot off the pedal to then let it shift. from third to fourth its fine.
sounds to me like your transmission is sticking…
when was it last serviced?
when was my car last serviced or transmission specifically? I’m the fourth owner of the car and to my knowledge nothing major was done to the transmission or engine. or are you talking about a basic transmission flush? still im not completely sure lol. should it be sticking when its only at 133k miles?
