Got a 90 integrA ls with an automatic. Tranny. It’s shifted roughl I to second and third gear for a while. Last week while driving it felt like it was slipping. The engine would just race. Wouldn’t shift into any gears. The engine would just rev up to really high rpm’s but the car wouldnt move. Put it in mAnual second and s3 and s4 and t still wouldn’t work. Neither would reverse gear. It has fluid. It’s full. Don’t know wether it is the whole tranny or maybe just the torque converter. Any ideas are appreciated!!! Thanks
if it’s the transmission, there will be clutch material in the fluid. i’d drop the pan and have a good look at the fluid/pan. if you see goldish shimmer in it, it’s likely the transmission. if the fluid is black looking, more likely the TC.
you can try some lucas trans fix. i usually don’t stand by fixes in a bottle, but this stuff is like magic. i tried a bottle in my golf with a service. now this thing was shifting all over the place. after the lucas, thing felt brand new. do realize that you’re not solving any problems by using it. just a last ditch effort to mask it
Yea that’s Wat I was thinking of trying. It just didn’t make sense for none of the gears to work not even reverse. One thing it did do was if I kept it reved up it would all of a sudden catch and I would have a little bit of acceleration bt not much. If turned the car off for a while and then tried it again. It would run for a little. A mile or so. I was thinking the stator or the overrunning cluctch in the TOrque converter was causing that. I’ll try the Lucas oil though first. Now what if that doesn’t help the problem?? TC for sure??
